Kumail Nanjiani is returning to stand-up comedy after 10 years with a new special for Hulu.
Nanjiani’s debut comedy special in the past twelve years, following “Beta Male” from 2013, is titled “The Hour.” The specific launch date and title are yet to be unveiled.
ITV America and TheYearOfElan are set to create a brand-new special, with Nanjiani, Elan Gale, and Bernie Schaeffer serving as executive producers for the project.
As a passionate film buff, I can’t help but admire Kumail Nanjiani. Known for his hilarious stints on shows like “Silicon Valley” and the heartwarming romantic comedy “The Big Sick,” which he co-penned with his wife, Emily V. Gordon, based on their extraordinary love story – I find his journey truly inspiring. His acting credits span a wide array of genres, from blockbuster hits such as “Marvel’s Eternals,” the “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” to some of my all-time favorite comedy shows like “Veep,” “Key & Peele,” “Broad City,” and “Only Murders in the Building.”
Nanjiani has been honored with an Oscar nomination for his screenplay work on “The Big Sick” and an Emmy nod for his guest appearance in Jordan Peele’s revamp of “The Twilight Zone,” as well as his leading role in the Hulu miniseries “Welcome to Chippendales.” Truly, he is a versatile talent who continues to captivate audiences with his exceptional performances.
His upcoming stand-up special will be part of Hulu’s comedy drive, known as Hularious, which began on November 22 with an hour from Jim Gaffigan. This initiative also includes specials from comedians like Bill Burr, Ilana Glazer, Jessica Kirson, Ralph Barbosa, Matteo Lane, Sebastian Maniscalco, Atsuko Okatsuka, Chris Distefano, Andrew Santino, Zarna Garg and Roy Wood Jr. Additionally, Hulu has obtained previously released comedy specials from companies like 800 Pound Gorilla, Comedy Dynamics and Don’t Tell Comedy to expand its comedy content offerings.
