A Chinese live-streamer has caused controversy by disclosing her daily earnings, which seemingly come despite her apparently idle activities.
Content producers sometimes earn substantial amounts without engaging directly with their audience, which has raised questions in some cases. However, a specific broadcaster has sparked discussions about potential banning due to boasting about her financial gains.
Chinese social media personality Gu Xixi is frequently embroiled in controversy on Douyin due to her repeated suspensions for content considered “explicit,” including live streams that showcase her physique.
Despite this, her audience hasn’t diminished. In fact, Xixi is earning quite a bit through her Douyin store, and she asserts that wealth comes effortlessly to her without having to put in much work.
Chinese streamer reveals “hard-earned money” from just lying in bed
As reported by the South China Morning Post, between February 8th and 16th, Xixi earned approximately $1.4 million USD on Douyin, and an additional $1.2 million on a different unspecified platform. It’s important to note that these earnings were made when she actively pursued monetization opportunities.
Today, despite spending the entire day resting in bed, accomplishing nothing, I managed to earn approximately 1.16 million yuan from my Douyin store, with an expected commission of around $42,000 USD, which I couldn’t help but share.
The more you seem to dislike my success and the harsher your criticism, the more money I earn. It’s not just about making tens of thousands of yuan each month, it’s about making tens of thousands of yuan every day! Got it?” The streamer joked mockingly.

Later on, Xixi made it clear that her remarks were meant to stir up those who dislike her, further explaining that her income was the result of her dedicated efforts.
She asserted, “We didn’t take anything unlawfully, nor did we plunder. All our income is honestly earned. My statement about doing nothing all day was intended to provoke, not to be taken literally. Can you imagine me doing nothing all day? I said it merely to annoy those who criticize me excessively.

As a devoted follower, I can’t help but notice the wave of reactions on the popular Chinese social media platform. People are seemingly giving her exactly what she seems to want: fueling the fire against her assertions that her wealth is legitimately earned, while some are even calling for a permanent ban. It’s quite intriguing to observe this dynamic unfold.
“Please ban her account, so she does not have to ‘work so hard!’” one exclaimed.
It’s not unusual for a popular streamer like Twitch star Amouranth to amass significant wealth simply by streaming while in bed. Her sleep-focused broadcasts have garnered her substantial donations from viewers, who often generously tip the well-known model.
