In 2021, game designer Takaya Imamura announced that he was retiring from Nintendo following more than three decades of service. Starting in 1989, Imamura began his career at Nintendo by designing characters for F-Zero and Star Fox under the guidance of Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Donkey Kong and Super Mario. Interestingly, even after leaving Nintendo, it seemed that Imamura’s subconscious mind couldn’t let go, as he found himself collaborating with Miyamoto in his dreams.
Initially following my departure from Nintendo, I found myself frequently having dreams where I believed I was still employed there. During these dreams, I would even begin working on a game, only to suddenly realize upon waking that it was unusual.
Later, Imamura shared that he met Miyamoto once more following their separation, and upon learning about his appearances in Imamura’s dreams, Miyamoto found it quite amusing.
Even after retiring from Nintendo and taking up a professorship, Imamura hasn’t severed ties with the video game world. His latest venture is titled Omega 6: The Triangle Star, a project rooted in the manga he authored and illustrated. In an interview for Nintendo Life, Imamua mentioned that he was primarily responsible for designing the characters in Omega 6. However, four of the characters were designed by his students, which he then incorporated into the game.
Omega 6: The Triangle Stars will be released on February 28 on Switch and PC.
