Many of you might recall the British gaming studio Rare, now under Microsoft’s ownership, known for hits like Sea of Thieves, Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads, and GoldenEye 007. Back in 2019, they unveiled a new brand called Everwild, which sparked rumors of a relaunch in 2021 but remained shrouded in mystery since then. It’s now official that the game associated with this brand is indeed under development.

Everwild devs don’t have to worry about time

Lately, the creators behind Everwild have surfaced with holiday greetings, and more recently, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has discussed the game during the Xbox Era podcast. Spencer confirmed that the project remains active, with the team consistently developing it further.

Additionally, I’d like to mention that I’ve just been visiting a place called Rare. It’s fascinating to observe the team working on Everwild and their ongoing advancements.

Spencer acknowledged that it’s been quite some time since any news about Everwild surfaced, but he is happy that Microsoft allows Rare Studios the time to develop it thoroughly. This is particularly reassuring given that Microsoft continues to churn out a variety of engaging games during this period.

We’ve managed to provide the necessary time for those teams to continue their work, which is beneficial, while still maintaining our current portfolio. It’s a dream that Matt [Booty] and I have harbored for quite some time, so it’s great to finally see it come to fruition. We can now allow those teams the time they need.

Regrettably, we’re still in the dark about when we might hear fresh updates regarding the game. Fingers crossed that the time Spencer mentioned will prove beneficial for Rare, and when we eventually get to see Everwild, it will undoubtedly be a remarkable and distinctive title.

In the game titled Everwild, players can venture into a shrouded, enchanting woodland boasting an open-ended layout teeming with whimsical creatures reminiscent of classic fairy tale beings. The title aims to captivate with striking visual design, innovative artistic concepts, and an ambiance evocative of Studio Ghibli’s animated masterpieces.
