At the Berlinale Palast on Monday, renowned French actress Ludivine Sagnier, most recognized for her roles in “Swimming Pool” and “8 Women,” warmly received a group of ten promising European actors, known as the European Shooting Stars, on stage.
Sagnier served as part of the panel that chose the Shooting Stars, joined by Romanian filmmaker Radu Muntean, Swiss producer Amel Soudani, Swedish casting director Pauline Hansson, and Montenegrin journalist Vuk Perović.
At the conclusion of a four-day series of intense events, known as the Shooting Stars award ceremony, which takes place during the Berlin Film Festival, serves as the grand finale and most festive moment. This event offers actors the opportunity to interact with international casting directors and gain exposure in front of the international media. German actress Thelma Buabeng welcomed the actors before the audience at the Berlinale Palast.
As a movie enthusiast, I found myself walking down the red carpet at the Berlin festival, where I was warmly welcomed by Tricia Tuttle, the festival director, and Claudia Roth, Germany’s federal government commissioner for culture and media. This encounter might have been her final official duty in that position, ahead of the national elections on Sunday.
Here are the ten actors chosen for Shooting Stars: Marina Makris (Cyprus), Besir Zeciri (Denmark), Maarja Johanna Mägi (Estonia), Devrim Lingnau (Germany), Elín Hall (Iceland), Kārlis Arnolds Avots (Latvia), Šarūnas Zenkevičius (Lithuania), Lidija Kordić (Montenegro), Vicente Wallenstein (Portugal), and Frida Gustavsson (Sweden).
Some actors are already creating a splash at film festivals and during award season. Zeciri plays a prominent role in Magnus von Horn’s “The Girl with the Needle,” which debuted at Cannes, and has been nominated for an Oscar in the international feature film category. Lingnau appears in Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay’s thriller “Hysteria,” which was screened in the Panorama section of Berlinale on Saturday. Hall featured in Rúnar Rúnarsson’s “When the Light Breaks,” which kicked off the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Kordić starred as Cicciolina in “Diva Futura,” which competed at the Venice Film Festival.
The Shooting Stars program is organized by European Film Promotion.
