New Comedy by Gianni Di Gregorio With ‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Tom Wlaschiha, Picked Up by Fandango Sales – First Look Image (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing “Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don’t,” the latest comedic masterpiece from Italian director Gianni Di Gregorio, whose film “Mid-August Lunch” was recently reimagined in English. This globally distributed production is a must-see for comedy lovers everywhere.

Fandango is launching sales on the film, which is now in post, at the EFM in Berlin.

Titled “Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place,” this eclectic director’s fifth film follows the life of a 70-year-old retired professor who enjoys a peaceful existence in his cozy home, receiving a comfortable pension, spending time with jovial friends, and sharing moments with a companion. However, tranquility is disrupted when his troubled daughter arrives with her two unruly grandchildren due to a marital crisis. This unexpected event brings about “a fresh wave of concerns and apprehensions, yet also newfound emotions,” the synopsis reveals.

“Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,” is the fifth film by this unique director. It revolves around a retired professor in his seventies, who lives contentedly in a beautiful house, with a steady pension, friends to laugh with, and a companion he spends time with. But when his daughter arrives in turmoil due to a marital crisis, accompanied by her two unruly grandchildren, his peaceful life is thrown into chaos. This event brings about “a new set of problems, fears, but also new feelings,” as the synopsis suggests.

Thus commences a journey exploring the romantic lives of various characters, including our protagonist – portrayed once more by Di Gregorio – who discovers that love, despite the hardships, heartache, and pain it may bring, is still a valuable experience.

Completing the ensemble of “Damned if You Do” are Greta Scarano (“New Olympus”); Tom Wlaschiha from “Game of Thrones”; Anna Losano; Pietro Serpi; and the widely recognized stage and screen actress Iaia Forte, who is well-liked in our local scene.

75-year-old Di Gregorio made a splash in 2008 with “Mid-August Lunch,” a film about an energetic group of women over 80, who were attended by a somewhat immature, middle-aged drinker. The character was portrayed by him. Made on a tight budget of $500,000, the movie won the Lion of the Future award for best debut at the Venice festival and eventually earned approximately $8 million globally. More recently, it has been remade by Irish director Darren Thornton under the title “Four Mothers.

Di Gregorio’s subsequent movies, namely “The Salt of Life,” “Good for Nothing,” “Citizens of the World,” and “Astolfo,” have all been screened globally.

The movie titled ‘Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don’t’ is being jointly produced by Bibi Film from Italy, RAI Cinema, also from Italy, and Les Films Du Poisson from France. Fandango will be responsible for the theatrical release of this film in Italy.
