In mid-February, New York City is most certainly sweater weather, making it perfect for the airing of SNL50, which featured Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph reprising their popular daytime talk show “Bronx Beat.” The pair began by lavishing praise on Miles Teller, whom they recognized from “Top Gun 2.” He corrected them, explaining that it was actually titled “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Just as Teller became too familiar, Mike Myers entered, transforming into Linda Richman from “Coffee Talk.” Betty and Jodi responded with a “Wayne’s World” exclamation of “We’re not worthy,” as Linda settled onto the couch. Now, you have three New York accents in one place – Betty, Jodi, and Linda! They chattered away, using words like “kvetched” and “kvelled.”

“Check out those gals,” Linda said admiringly, “two hunks of butter!” Their conversation ranged from noodle kugel, their shared friend Paul Baldwin (whom they called “Pool Boowldwin”), his serious health issues (“advanced shpilkes in his kinnickdezoink”), and debating whether the Progressive Era was indeed progressive or simply an era.
