Jack Nicholson Makes Rare TV Appearance at ‘SNL50,’ Introduces Adam Sandler’s Heartfelt Song Honoring the Show’s History

On the special occasion of SNL50’s anniversary show on Sunday evening, Adam Sandler’s act left an indelible mark, long before it actually started. This unforgettable performance was preceded by none other than Jack Nicholson, who graced the stage at Studio 8H with his presence, eliciting thunderous applause from the audience.

In his performance, Sandler pointed out that everyone in the room shared something significant with him, as he reminisced about his five-year stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’ from 1991 to 1995. His act showcased popular skits, humorous backstage banter with the crew, good-natured teasing of Lorne Michaels, and a tribute to the late performers, particularly Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald.

Sandler is recognized for blending music with personal recollections; during his 2018 Netflix special titled “100% Fresh,” Sandler introduced a song about his late friend Farley, who tragically passed away in 1997 at the age of 33. The following year, he performed this piece on “Saturday Night Live,” and footage of them together was shown simultaneously onscreen.

During the performance of the song, Sandler became emotional, reminiscing about a moment when Farley was crying to KC & the Sunshine Band. “I asked him, ‘Friend, why are you so upset?'” Sandler sang. “Then he chuckled and admitted, ‘Just remembering my father.’

Sandler was one of many former “Saturday Night Live” stars who came back for the special event held at Studio 8H in New York City. Kenan Thompson, Pete Davidson, Maya Rudolph, Jason Sudeikis, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Eddie Murphy, Ana Gasteyer, Tracy Morgan, Rachel Dratch, Leslie Jones, Laraine Newman, Chevy Chase, Kristen Wiig, Chris Rock, Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Molly Shannon, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Seth Meyers and Will Ferrell were some of the past “SNL” cast members who were there.
