Freaks Factory and Ka-Ching Cartoons Board ‘The Growcodile’ (EXCLUSIVE)

The animation studios, Freaks Factory from Belgium and Ka-Ching Cartoons based in the Netherlands, have joined forces as coproduction partners for the computer-generated (CG) animated film “The Growcodile.” This production is making steady progress and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Film Constellation, our sales agency, recently shared a never-before-seen photo and plans to debut a sneak peek for potential buyers at the European Film Market.

As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to announce that my upcoming review will feature a film which has already garnered significant pre-sales deals across various regions. For instance, it’s set to premiere in Poland at Kinoswiat, Eastern Europe at ProRom, CIS and Baltics at Volga, Portugal at Nos, Greece and Israel at Tanweer, Turkey and MENA at Italia Film, and Vietnam at Lumix. Additionally, discussions are ongoing for several other territories. Excitingly, KMBO will bring this film to French theaters!

In the story titled “The Growcodile,” we meet Bridget, a talented girl with an unusual secret – she keeps a pet crocodile named Gilbert hidden in her room. Despite his endearing nature, Gilbert continues to grow larger and harder to manage. The predicament becomes even more challenging when Bridget’s parents dislike pets and her father, who runs a shoe store, has a fondness for crocodile skin. In search of a suitable home for Gilbert, Bridget and her grandmother Nell embark on an exhilarating journey filled with unexpected twists and turns.

The movie is helmed by Joost Van Den Bosch and Erik Verkerk, both former members of Cartoon Saloon, who have a history of working together on various short films and successful series like “Skunk Fu.” It’s based on the children’s book “Crocodile Came Within!” written by Paul Van Loon, which was translated for the screen by Luuk van Bemmelen.

The movie was created and will be distributed by Fabrique d’Images (known for “Stitchhead,” “My Fairy Troublemaker,” and “Luis and the Aliens”), in collaboration with Freaks Factory, Ka-Ching Cartoons, Cool Beans, and Fantabulous.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but be thrilled about the collaborative effort between distribution powerhouse KMBO, responsible for films like “10 Lives” and “The Amazing Maurice,” and the creative minds at Fabrique d’Images, a production house. Together, they are crafting something truly captivating in the world of cinema.

Belgium’s Freaks Factory is a collaborative effort between the Walloon production company, Frakas Prods., and Fabrique d’Images.

The movie was created by Mark Mertens from Fabrique d’Images, Vladimir Kokh from Fantabulous, Jean-Yves Roubin from Freaks Factory, and Richard Claus and Chantal Nissen from Cool Beans.

The Growcodile” signifies the second joint project between Film Constellation and Trio Fabrique D’images, which includes Freaks Factory and Fantabulous. This partnership follows their previous work on “The Last Dinosaur,” a CG family adventure animation currently in production and expected to be completed and released during the second quarter of 2026.
