Pablo Trapero’s ‘Malinche’ Set for Morena, Talipot

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined the ranks as Talipot Studio, a partner in Mexico, lends its production expertise to Pablo Trapero’s epic historical film “Malinche.” This masterpiece is being co-produced by Spain’s Morena Films and directed by the renowned Pablo Trapero, known for his work on “The Clan” and “ZeroZeroZero.

Prestigious Mexican historian Enrique Krauze also produces. 

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement for one of the anticipated films hailing from the Spanish-speaking world this year – “Malinche.” This gripping tale is penned by none other than Trapero and Daniel Krauze, who has also contributed to the writing of “Luis Miguel: The Series.

The story unfolds as a grand conquistador saga, taking place in 1519 when Hernán Cortes’ soldiers are believed to have been received by Aztec ruler Moctezuma in Tenochtitlan. However, the narrative primarily revolves around the character of Malinche, who served as Cortés’ interpreter and was also his consort, giving birth to their son.

In the movie, Malinco – historically viewed as crucial in Spain’s conquest but often labeled a traitor by Mexico – is portrayed as a strong advocate for peace, caught between the Aztec and Spanish Empires.

During a span of several months, it appeared as though the Spanish and Aztecs might work together. Talks were held, setting the stage for our tale. However, the Malincle of common myth is significantly different from reality,” Morena’s Alvaro Longoria explained.

Regina Solórzano, CEO of Talipot Studio, commented that this moment in [Mexican] history is particularly iconic when viewed from an adventurous perspective,” she added.
