The Finnish filmmaker Zaida Bergroth, known for her work on “Tove”, is preparing to helm a biographical film about Marianne Faithfull, titled simply “Marianne”. Actress Freya Allan, who gained fame from “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, has been cast as the iconic pop star from swinging London, who tragically passed away in January.
The British actor and musician, Jojo Macari (known for roles in “Sex Education” and “Those About to Die”), is set to portray the role of Mick Jagger in an upcoming project.
The project, currently in its initial stage (pre-production), is being presented to potential buyers by Altitude Film Sales based in the U.K., during the European Film Market in Berlin.
The movie ‘Marianne’ chronicles Marianne Faithfull’s tumultuous journey, from a blameless pop idol and actress, often associated with Mick Jagger, to experiencing homelessness, addiction, and public disgrace. This film will show her dramatic ups and downs, from the glittering heights of the swinging ’60s, where she was a shining star, to becoming a fallen icon and eventual comeback. Ultimately, it portrays her as a phoenix reborn, solidifying her status as one of the greatest icons and true artists of our era.
The film titled ‘Marianne’ is being developed by Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films and Roosa Toivonen, a producer from Finland. Previously, Taylor-Stanley had been in charge of a biopic about Marianne Faithfull that was initially announced but didn’t come to fruition.”

“Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films and Finnish producer Roosa Toivonen are working on the film ‘Marianne’. Before this, Taylor-Stanley had been overseeing a Marianne Faithfull biopic that didn’t end up happening.
The “Marianne” screenplay is co-written by Taylor-Stanley and Bergroth.
Bergroth’s film “Tove” offers a biographical portrayal of Tove Jansson, a Finnish visual artist and writer who was bisexual and spoke Swedish, best known for creating the internationally adored Moomin characters.
Passed away on January 30 at the age of 78 in London, Faithfull was initially introduced as a singer in 1964 with the single “As Tears Go By,” a song co-written by Andrew Loog Oldham, manager of the Rolling Stones, and band members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
In February 1967, Faithfull, a popular musician, and Richards were frequently featured in gossip columns. Their names made headlines across newspapers when they were apprehended for drug possession at Richards’ estate, Redlands. During the raid, Faithfull was famously found wearing only a fur coat, leading to sensationalist headlines such as “Nude Girl at The Rolling Stones Party” in tabloids.
By the early ’70s, Faithfull found herself without a home, residing on the bustling streets of London. Yet, her 1979 album titled “Broken English” served as a catalyst, rejuvenating her and propelling her back into the limelight in both her musical and artistic pursuits.
