In the concluding episode of “The Dexter: Original Sin” series titled “Code Blues,” young Dexter wraps up his current pursuit, but despite a joyful resolution, a sinister presence remains unchecked (Caution: severe spoilers follow!).
After ten episodes filled with numerous ’90s allusions, the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” has finally concluded its run. This engaging series revisited the early murderous exploits of Dexter Morgan, featuring both fresh and familiar victims.
In episode 9, there were hints suggesting an epic conclusion. Will Brian Moser commit another murder? Could Harry meet his end at his hands? Also, how will Dexter manage to take down Captain Spencer in the finale?
In the final episode of Original Sin, all questions are addressed. Here’s a comprehensive recap of every significant event that unfolds.
Brian Moser’s life is revealed in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 10
The show opens with a scene reminiscent of a past encounter between Brian and his psychologist, Dr. Paul Petrie. In this meeting, Brian shares memories from his youth, explaining that he was taken in by the Morgans following the demise of his biological mother, Laura.
Following several aggressive incidents, it was decided to take him away from his current guardianship and place him in the foster system instead. In this new environment, his violent behavior persisted, leading to further placement at Harbor Light Mental Institute, where he gained the label of “psychopath.
Although Petrie admires Brian’s advancements, he’s troubled by Brian’s intense longing to meet up with Dexter again. Whenever Brian is barred from seeing his brother, he becomes enraged and ends up fatally striking Petrie’s head with a fire poker in his anger.
Harry finds Brian’s new victim
Today, Harry and LaGuerta receive an alarming call to a crime location where they find the fragmented remains of Barb Plimpton, a familiar figure from their past – their former social worker who once took custody of Brian away from them. This revelation sparks suspicion in Harry’s mind, and upon glancing up, he notices Brian standing there, watching the scene unfold.
Meanwhile, Dexter is tracking down Spencer, who has just escaped, as they head towards Nicky’s hideout, where Dexter intends to rescue the boy. Interestingly, it turns out that this location isn’t far from the local police station, and Nicky is being held captive on a cargo ship close by.
In the heat of our gaming world, a clash between Dexter and me erupted, sending us spiraling into conflict. In the heat of the moment, I made a desperate move – flooding the cargo ship where Nicky was hidden. However, it turned out that my suspicions about Spencer’s motives were spot on. You see, he wasn’t too troubled by the flood, because as it turns out, he had long harbored doubts: Nicky might just be the son of Nelson – his ex-wife’s current boyfriend.
Next, Spencer presents Dexter with an option: either rescue Nicky, or pursue him. However, Spencer flees instead, allowing Dexter to save Nicky and perform CPR on him. It turns out that Dexter is a hero. He fires signal flares into the air to draw attention to the boy before chasing after Spencer.
Harry confronts Brian
At the crime scene, Brian is perched overhead, keeping an eye out for Dexter’s arrival. However, it’s Harry who notices him and rushes to apprehend him, pointing a gun at Brian. Brian confesses that he had attempted to get in touch with Dexter earlier by killing individuals from his past, intending for Dexter to show up at one of the crime scenes.
Brian accuses Harry of being responsible for his (Brian’s) and Dexter’s split, as he thinks Harry manipulated his younger brother. However, Harry counters by stating that Brian could undo all their efforts to control his aggressive tendencies, asserting, “I am the right choice for Dexter.
Eager to apprehend him for his crimes, Harry pleads with Brian to keep their familial connection a secret, as revealing that he’s Dexter’s brother could link all the disturbing incidents from the past directly to Dexter, who until now had managed to avoid any suspicion.
Before taking any action, Brian knocks Harry unconscious and leaves him up on the rooftop, writing a chilling message (“You’re right”) in blood as a parting gesture. This means that although they share similar views, Brian will keep his distance until Dexter Season 1, at which point he secretly re-enters his older brother’s world and discloses his true identity. For the time being, Harry is powerless to intervene.
Spencer makes one last move
Meanwhile, Becca, Nicky’s mom and Spencer’s former wife, is tuned into the news for the latest updates. Suddenly, Spencer arrives, assaults Becca with the intention of murdering her due to her deceit about their son’s paternity. But luckily, Dexter intervenes at the last moment, knocking Spencer unconscious instead.
After waking up, Spencer finds himself secured on Camilla’s vessel. Ultimately, Dexter takes Spencer’s life. Despite our lack of knowledge regarding whether (or if) Spencer abducted and murdered Jimmy Powell along with his own son, it seems that this tale of horror has reached its conclusion.
Dexter puts Spencer’s body into the water wrapped in trash bags, which takes him a step further towards becoming a mature serial killer. Upon returning home, he confides in Harry about everything, and Harry expresses regret for not believing Dexter’s hypothesis regarding Spencer earlier.
“Spencer wasn’t born a monster, he became one,” Dexter tells him. “But me, I was born this way.”
A happy ending for Dexter Morgan (for now)
At Miami Metro, discussions have arisen concerning Spencer’s whereabouts. In the end, it is determined that Spencer’s actions were driven by his personal rage, leading him to flee, while Harry proposes an intriguing idea: maybe there was no NHI Killer from the start.
While Dexter secures a permanent role within the forensics unit, he, along with Harry, decides to celebrate this milestone. During their outing, Deb shares her plans to forgo college next year and join the police academy instead.
While she’s dancing, Dexter and Harry converse about the transformation in Dexter, noting how he’s learned to use his instincts constructively rather than for mindless killing. Meanwhile, Brian stands apart, lonely, longing for his estranged brother, with whom he won’t rekindle a relationship for decades to come.
