⚠️ HEADS UP: The following text reveals significant spoilers for the ending of the movie “Captain America: Brave New World” now playing in theaters.

Once more, Captain America has shielded our world from peril, yet his mission is far from over; there remains the daunting task of assembling the Avengers anew.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson assumed the role from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers as Captain America and headlined his debut movie titled “Captain America: Brave New World.” During this film, he successfully defeated the formidable Red Hulk (portrayed by Harrison Ford). However, a hint of further multiverse perils in the MCU was subtly suggested in the post-credits scene featuring gamma-exposed genius Samuel Sterns, known as the villainous Leader, portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson.

Towards the end of the film, Captain America discovers that Stark is the one who supplied Ross with pills laced with gamma radiation, which caused him to transform into the Red Hulk when he gets angry. Stark’s malicious scheme was a form of revenge for Ross playing a role in his transformation into a genial yet insane scientist with an unusually large brain.

Following a devastating conflict that leaves the White House in ruins, Captain America manages to subdue Red Hulk/Ross and incarcerates Sterns. Ross voluntarily surrenders himself and agrees to serve his time for the chaos caused by Red Hulk. This leads us to wonder who assumes the presidency while Ross is behind bars, but this question remains unanswered. However, we do learn through a brief appearance that Sebastian Stan’s character, Bucky Barnes or the Winter Soldier, is making strides in politics and has been elected as an incoming U.S. congressman. While we look forward to seeing more of Bucky in this summer’s “Thunderbolts” movie, it seems he is part of a new team of anti-heroes/villains in the film rather than serving as a politician.

In a scene following the credits, Captain America pays a visit to Sterns who’s imprisoned on The Raft. In a foreboding manner, Sterns hints that he has mathematically determined the likelihood of other dimensions existing in the cosmos, and warns that Earth’s protectors must guard our planet against these alternate realities. This marks Captain America’s entry into the multiverse, though fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe have already encountered it through “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “What If…?” and soon with “Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The upcoming events appear to set the stage for future “Avengers” films like “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” where characters from various universes will team up. It’s confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time as the villain Dr. Doom instead of Iron Man in a surprising turn of events. This summer brings us “Fantastic Four,” introducing an alternate reality where Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing are the primary superheroes. If they meet Captain America’s team, will they work together to combat Dr. Doom? Let’s hope that Cap can rally Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in time to confront this imminent multiverse-threatening danger.
