Open worlds and games-as-a-service – this is what Ubisoft wants to focus on in the coming years.
Yves Guillemot, head of the company, subtly shared their future strategies at an investor conference linked to the release of Ubisoft’s financial report for the third quarter of this fiscal year. In response to a question from someone in attendance, Guillemot made clear that “open-world” games and those utilizing Game-as-a-Service (GAAS) models are areas where Ubisoft will be heavily investing in the near future. This statement seems to support the actions they’ve taken recently, such as those concerning the developers of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
In his discussion, Guillemot highlighted several titles Ubisoft has in store, with “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” being a notable one (a potential savior for Ubisoft following their recent challenges). Additionally, the head of the company hinted at “Anno 117: Pax Romana” and substantial plans for “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege” across all platforms. This significant part of their strategy is expected to play a key role in the publisher’s future plans.
Guillemot didn’t disclose any additional details, but there are whispers among players that the second case could hint at a potential sequel to Siege, modeled after Counter-Strike 2. We might catch a glimpse of this project during the Six Invitational 2025 tournament, which kicks off today.
Although Guillemot didn’t specifically discuss other initiatives, it’s possible that the company could take a cue from other publishers and reintroduce old series or games. This might mean a potential revival of titles like Beyond Good & Evil 2, or even a return to the world of Rayman, hinting at their continued existence.
