Meet Freja: Overwatch 2’s Groundbreaking New DPS Hero You Can’t Afford to Miss!

In a recent announcement, Blizzard unveiled the upcoming hero for Overwatch 2 – Freja. This fresh character is a Damage Per Second (DPS) figure and is expected to rank among the game’s most skillfully demanding characters.

Approximately every two game seasons, Overwatch 2 introduces a new character into its team of heroes, ensuring the gameplay remains exciting and varied. In Seasons 12 and 14, we welcomed Juno and Hazard to the roster, and now, the upcoming addition has been officially unveiled.

At the Overwatch Spotlight event, Freja was introduced as a character who will bring excitement to the Damage Per Second (DPS) category. Here’s an overview of her skills and background:

1. Abilities Overview: Discover the unique set of abilities that make Freja stand out in the heat of battle.

Do we know when Freja will arrive in Overwatch 2?

In Season 16, scheduled for release in April, Freja is anticipated as the Overwatch 2 hero. Typically, new characters debut every two seasons. Following Hazard in Season 14, we can expect no new hero in the subsequent update.

As an eager fan, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming Season 15! That’s when we’ll finally get a chance to test out the new DPS character – a fantastic opportunity! During this season, Freja will be accessible in Quick Play matches. This is a golden moment for us, the community, to provide feedback on her performance, as the developers observe and make any necessary balancing adjustments before she officially debuts.

How to play Freja

In the game Overwatch, Freja stands out as a versatile damage per second (DPS) hero, but learning to fully utilize her potential can be quite challenging. While her abilities might appear simple on the surface, effectively combining them for optimal results takes some skill and practice.

Remember that her main weapon is a crossbow, which launches bolts, rather than a simple fire source. While this isn’t much of a concern in close to medium range, it’s crucial to anticipate your shots and adjust them slightly when shooting at longer distances for consistent hits.

This weapon performs best at greater distances due to its ability to fire a powerful, singular burst. Notably, an initial precise shot can result in a headshot, making it crucial to focus on hitting the target’s head to inflict maximum damage.

Utilizing this additional fire not just aids in your shot alignment by temporarily reducing your speed, but it’s more like you’re pausing time, though it only affects you. Consequently, if you’re leaping or moving sideways, you’ll start to hover, which enhances precision but also makes you a more noticeable target.

During my quick trial of Freja at the Spotlight event, I discovered that utilizing the “Take Aim” feature to evade incoming attacks was quite beneficial, since it allows you to momentarily float in difficult-to-reach spots.

The secret to her effectiveness lies in utilizing the ‘Quick Dash’ ability to replenish ‘Take Aim’. You have two uses available, so it’s essential to monitor them carefully and strategically time your dashes to recharge your explosive bots. This way, you can unleash a series of potent attacks one after another.

The right moment is crucial for her Ultimate. The Bola Shot not only immobilizes the target it strikes but also attracts surrounding adversaries. Therefore, it’s ideal to employ this ability when enemies are already grouped together and you have a good number of teammates in proximity, like Bastion or Junkrat, who can capitalize on the situation.

Backstory and lore

Freja is the initial character in Overwatch who originates from Denmark, furthering the game’s dedication to showcasing a variety of nationalities and cultures.

In her prime, she was a member of the renowned Overwatch team, working side by side with characters like Winston and Reinhardt, specializing in search and rescue missions. After the team broke up, she sought purpose anew and transitioned into the role of a bounty hunter.

I’m super excited about Freja, and while we’ve got a good handle on her so far, there’s even more to learn as we march towards Season 16! In the interim, let me fill you in on all the latest details about our new Perks system and the upcoming Stadium mode. Can’t wait!
