Julia Roberts, Luca Guadagnino Thriller ‘After the Hunt’ Sets October Release Date (EXCLUSIVE)

This fall, ‘After the Hunt,’ a gripping thriller helmed by director Luca Guadagnino and featuring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield, will premiere in cinemas.

Amazon MGM is planning a prestigious release for the movie “After the Hunt” during the award season, starting with a limited debut on October 10th. Following this, it will be expanded to more cinemas on October 17th. On the same day, “After the Hunt” will compete against Blumhouse’s thriller “The Black Phone 2,” featuring Ethan Hawke, and two other movies – Lionsgate’s R-rated comedy “Good Fortune,” starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen.

Titled as a “compelling psychological thriller,” this movie revolves around Roberts’ character, a college professor, who faces a challenging juncture in her personal and professional life when one of her students (Edebiri) accuses one of her colleagues (Garfield). The plotline unfolds as she struggles to handle the situation, with a hidden secret from her past potentially surfacing. Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny complete the ensemble cast.

Following the Hunt, Guadagnino, the esteemed director of the Academy Award-nominated film Call Me by Your Name, will once again collaborate with the studio that backed his projects – the sexy tennis drama Challengers, the cannibal love story Bones and All, and the Suspiria remake. Most recently, Guadagnino has directed Queer, a heartfelt 1950s-era romance featuring Daniel Craig as an American expat in Mexico City who develops feelings for a significantly younger man.

After “The Hunt,” the director of Call Me by Your Name will work with the same studio again on new projects, such as Queer, where Daniel Craig falls for a young man while living in Mexico City during the 1950s.

Newcomer Nora Garrett penned the screenplay for “After the Hunt”. She will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Karen Lunder, for Imagine Entertainment. Additionally, Justin Wilkes and Alice Dawson are also involved in the production. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum from Imagine Entertainment, along with Guadagnino representing Frenesy, will produce the movie.

In addition to “After the Hunt,” Amazon MGM’s 2025 movie lineup features “The Accountant 2” starring Ben Affleck, as well as “A Working Man,” a project by Jason Statham and David Ayer.
