In a delightful twist, Cobra Kai continues to welcome back actors from the classic Karate Kid films, and Season 6 Part 3 holds yet another intriguing appearance.
In simpler terms, the popular series Netflix Cobra Kai brought together old enemies Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from The Karate Kid movies. Over the course of six seasons, these two maintained a complex bond that seemed to oscillate between affection and animosity.
As the journey progresses, a variety of figures resurface from the past, such as former love interests like Ali, Kimiko, and Jessica, antagonists such as John Kreese, Terry Silver, and the infamous Mike Barnes (known as “karate’s bad boy”), along with assorted members of the Cobra Kai group.
Regrettably, Julie Pierce, The Next Karate Kid’s main character, is absent during the concluding episodes. However, a surprising figure makes a comeback in Part 3 of Season 6 instead.
Darryl Vidal cameos at the end of Cobra Kai
In the final scenes of The Karate Kid, Darryl Vidal competes in the All-Valley Karate Tournament, while he serves as a judge during the Sekai Taikai Tournament in the finale of Cobra Kai.
Previously, Vidal was part of the Locust Valley Karate team, and he emerged victorious at the All-Valley tournament in 1981. In a thrilling semifinal match, he bested Johnny Lawrence.
In the third season of Cobra Kai, Kreese shares a tale with Robby: “I’ll tell you about your father,” he begins. “He was a fighter through and through. Yet it wasn’t until his first All-Valley tournament that I truly recognized his true potential.
He managed to reach the quarterfinals, but his opponent was a young man named Vidal. Now, Vidal was a third-generation black belt and an exceptionally skilled fighter, far surpassing Johnny at that moment. Despite this, his father didn’t back down easily. I could see in his eyes that he wouldn’t let such a defeat happen again.
In the Karate Kid legend, Vidal was overpowered by Cobra Kai warriors in 1983, but he ultimately lost against Lawrence in the 1984 tournament’s semi-finals, as depicted at the end of the Karate Kid movie.
However, in the third part of Season 6, Terry Silver proposes a repeat of the World Grandmaster Championship, funded by him. He allows both Daniel and Johnny to decide on the venue and the officiating officials.
First, they choose the Valley as their final destination to complete their narrative. Later, during the tournament, it’s revealed that they picked Darryl Vidal as the referee.
In this production, the character is portrayed by martial artist Darryl Vidal himself, allowing him to use his real name on screen. Notably, Vidal has made multiple appearances in these films, where he wore a skull-cap and took over from Pat Morita during challenging training and fight sequences that Morita found too demanding.
