The Danish Woman: Explosive Retired Spy Turns Neighborhood Hero in Thrilling New Series

The captivating Buzzy Trine Dyrholm series titled “The Danish Woman” is set to premiere on the global stage, gracing the International Panorama segment of Series Mania in March.

In the heart of her Oscar campaign for “The Girl with the Needle,” Dyrholm portrays Ditte Jensen, a former Danish Secret Service member who retires honorably. However, Ditte finds it difficult to abandon her identity as an elite soldier and fighter. Instead, she intends to lead a tranquil life in Reykjavik. Yet, it seems that Ditte can’t help but continue being the person she is – a protector. Consequently, she plans on offering assistance to her neighbors, whether they desire it or not.

Under the guidance of acclaimed director Benedikt Erlingsson, who has previously created “Woman at War” and “Of Horses and Men,” a new six-episode series is scheduled to debut in January 2026. Distribution of this show will be handled by The Party Film Sales on an international scale.

Following the film ‘Woman at War’, Erlingsson decided to explore the theme of ‘the end justifies the means’ from a fresh perspective. Thus, he created the character of Ditte Jensen. He shared this information with EbMaster.

She’s a fascinating blend, a paradox if you will: a peaceful being on feet capable of great explosiveness. She embodies both the spirit of a warrior and a nurturer, yet she tends her garden and shapes her society with the tactics of a warrior. In essence, it’s as if she’s managing international politics, but within the confines of her home.

Despite Danish actress Trine Dyrholm having accomplished nearly every role throughout her remarkably varied career, the series offers a seemingly compact array of her numerous personas.

She’s portraying a character that blends with different situations, much like a chameleon, yet remains genuine and authentic. Such a performance requires a truly exceptional and skilled actor,” he commented.

Although it might not be evident from the previews or advertisements, ‘The Danish Woman‘ features an abundance of singing and dancing. Nothing showcases humanity better than observing people dance, and Trine Dyrholm excels as a dancer and vocalist of exceptional caliber, mirroring the character of the Danish Woman in the series.

The series was developed by Erlingsson and Olafur Egill Egilsson and is produced by Marianne Slot and Carine Leblanc, through their company Slot Machine. It’s a joint production with Iceland’s Gullslottid and Zik Zak Filmworks.

In Europe, we’re up against shows that boast resources far exceeding our budgetary capabilities. To succeed, we must think outside the box, allocate funds wisely, and strive for artistic excellence in our productions, as suggested by Marianne Slot.

Maintaining uniqueness and fostering diversity sets us apart, as AI fundamentally cannot. This distinctiveness is crucial for captivating our audience. ‘The Danish Woman’ promises an exhilarating and entertaining journey, and we’re confident she will leave you in awe. It would be astounding if someone could predict her destination. Even if they do, the journey itself remains captivating.

Slot will reunite with Erlingsson also on his upcoming feature. But it won’t focus on women.

In Freudian terms, you could say that I have a particular fondness for female characters and aim to make them happy in my stories. However, this is just an aspect of storytelling – some tales feature men, others focus on women, and some encompass all genders. Yet, my upcoming project will center around male characters, offering a male perspective. I’ve named it ‘Normal Men.’
