If you’re familiar with Supermassive, it’s likely because of their popular debut game, Until Dawn, which has been remastered and will soon become a movie. The opening episode of the second season, titled “Directive 8020,” belongs to the horror genre series known as “The Dark Pictures Anthology”, which was developed by Supermassive Games. This season follows the first one that encompassed four games. In contrast to its predecessors, “Directive 8020” delves into the realm of science fiction. A group of five individuals find themselves stranded on an alien planet with aspirations for colonization. However, they soon discover they are not solitary explorers. As per a statement from Supermassive Games, the colonization ship Cassiopeia has been contaminated by an extraterrestrial organism that can mimic any crew member. Players must make crucial decisions for the crew and employ stealth tactics along with various tools to ensure survival.

Discover which characters you can rely upon in a tale that openly acknowledges its influences, similar to horror films such as The Thing and social deduction games like Among Us. The upcoming game, Directive 8020, seems to carry these inspirations with it, so we’ll have to wait until October to see how it unfolds.

According to a press release by Supermassive, players will find themselves utilizing items such as flashlights, but they should exercise caution with the light, as aliens may be drawn to it. A communicator is available for secretly coordinating and strategizing with fellow crew members. Additionally, a scanner can help detect electronics and create diversions. Lastly, the wedge – an item usually meant for opening doors – can also serve as an improvised weapon in a pinch.

Directive 8020 seems to share some similarities with tense action games, such as Dead Space. However, given that it’s being developed by Supermassive, the style might differ slightly. Supermassive is renowned for crafting narratives with multiple branches, where the outcome can be heavily influenced by critical decisions made in perilous situations. It wouldn’t be surprising if some incorrect choices led to the demise of the entire crew at the hands of the aliens.
