Today at the PlayStation State of Play event, Gearbox Software revealed an exciting new trailer for the upcoming Borderlands 4. As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement knowing that this latest installment is set to release later this year on September 23, 2025! The newly unveiled footage offered a glimpse into some of the game’s new mobility features like gliding, dodging, and even a double jump.
Borderlands 4 gets a release date and a new trailer, showcasing new movement abilities
The Borderlands series is recognized for its exaggerated style, characterized by an abundant variety of weapons, risqué humor, and vividly colored cell-shaded graphics. Borderlands 3 was unveiled in 2019, while Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands debuted in 2022. Unlike its predecessors, Borderlands 4, if it exists, might deviate by setting the story on a different planet and presenting fresh enemy factions to combat.
In many ways, Borderlands 4 appears similar to its predecessors in the series, yet it introduces a fresh touch. However, only time will tell if it surpasses the traditional elements of the franchise and offers something truly exceptional. At the minimum, it promises another exciting multiplayer experience for you and up to three friends to enjoy together.
The intriguing aspect about the announcement of the release date for Borderlands 4 is that Take-Two Interactive’s CEO had previously stated there would be a significant gap between the releases of Borderlands 4 and Grand Theft Auto 6, which is one of the most eagerly awaited games this year. With Borderlands 4 now confirmed for a September release date, it raises questions about what constitutes a “considerable” gap in this context. Is this an early indication that GTA 6 might be delayed until 2026? Alternatively, could it mean that GTA 6 will come out in November or December? It seems improbable that GTA 6 would launch ahead of Borderlands 4 in September.
In simpler terms, the first sneak peek at gameplay for Borderlands 4 was unveiled during The Game Awards. This trailer introduced the new antagonist, The Timekeeper, and showcased four brand-new Vault Hunters. While fan favorites like Claptrap are expected to reappear, it’s good news that there’s no hint of a Borderlands movie being connected with this project.
