Actress Noomi Rapace will headline the action-packed, female-driven movie titled “Traction,” a project that WestEnd Films is presenting at the European Film Market (EFM).
The movie “Traction” will be helmed by Lorraine Darrow (known for “Pas Sages”) and is being produced for Elizabeth Bay Productions by Janette Day (of “Close,” “Ghost World”), Dennis Davidson, and Simon Moseley (“The Man Who Knew Infinity”). Jon Gosier and Chandler Heinz Laun of FilmHedge serve as executive producers, along with Grant Hill, Eugene Koh, and Clayton Heinz from Elizabeth Bay Productions. WestEnd Films will present the project to potential buyers at EFM. Filming is set to commence in August. “Traction” signifies the first joint venture between WestEnd Films and Dennis Davidson’s Elizabeth Bay Productions, as well as Atlanta-based FilmHedge, following their collaboration last year. FilmHedge will co-finance the project alongside Elizabeth Bay. The plot revolves around Kate (portrayed by Rapace), a former U.S. soldier, who is leading a humanitarian mission with her Chechen ally Magomed through war-torn Chechnya. However, their mission becomes perilous when they unknowingly shelter a young rebel carrying a secretive parcel. Darrow, previously a first assistant director, wrote and developed the screenplay under the guidance of Lana and Lilly Wachowski. Shakyra Dowling will be responsible for casting.
Darrow expressed her excitement about working with Rapace, stating that she brings “strength, vulnerability, and subtlety” to Kate’s character, and he can’t wait to collaborate with her.
WestEnd Films’ Maya Amsellem expressed her delight: “Having achieved success with our previous project ‘Close,’ and our mutual dedication to portraying strong female narratives, we are ecstatic to collaborate once more with Lorraine and Noomi on this thrilling, action-packed film.” Davidson from Elizabeth Bay Prods. was equally excited: “I’m overjoyed that the initial project from our partnership with WestEnd and FilmHedge is Traction. We were captivated by Lorraine’s work, and having Noomi play Kate will truly bring the story to life.” Gosier from FilmHedge also shared their enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to have Traction as the inaugural film from our agreement with Elizabeth Bay, and we eagerly anticipate supporting the remainder of Dennis’ production slate.” Rapace is represented by Stella Härnström at Luz Eterna, Gersh, Tapestry, and Narrative. The deal was finalized by Kurt Selling at Behind the Scene.
