Marvel Director Says New Movie The Gorge Is Inspired By These Video Games

This week, Director Scott Derrickson’s latest production, titled “The Gorge,” is now available on Apple TV Plus. Notably, this film draws inspiration from several well-known video games, such as Until Dawn and Silent Hill, as mentioned by Derrickson himself in a recent interview. Previously, he has worked on films like Doctor Strange and The Black Phone.

Derrickson expressed to GamesRadar that he adores those types of games and believes gaming has raised the standard for gunplay action, particularly when it comes to a single or just a few characters. In his opinion, it’s hard to surpass this level of gameplay.

To bring those who are joining in late up to speed, “The Gorge” features Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as seasoned snipers tasked with watching over a deep ravine. As day turns to night, the situation becomes more complex and challenging for them. Consequently, they must collaborate to overcome these obstacles. GamesRadar noted that certain aspects of the movie share similarities with video games like “The Last of Us” and “Silent Hill.

As a dedicated fan, I can share that Derrickson talked about an intriguing aspect of creating The Gorge – the need to avoid an overdose of the “straight, chaotic gaming-style action.” Instead, the movie aims for a unique blend of genres, drawing inspiration not just from video games but also other sources.

Written by Zach Dean, who has penned films like Fast X, The Tomorrow War, and Deadfall, “The Gorge” is set to premiere on Apple TV Plus on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.
