Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Adapt To Your Favored Main Character

In Assassin’s Creed: Shadow, players are offered a unique choice – switching between two different lead characters for the first time in the series. The main characters, the agile ninja Naoe and the massive samurai Yasuke, possess individual abilities and perspectives on the world. Players can swiftly transition between these characters, but as confirmed by creative director Jonathan Dumont of Assassin’s Creed: Shadow, it’s possible to enjoy the game without favoring one character over the other extensively.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Dumont mentioned that the game doesn’t compel players to divide their playtime between Yasuke and Naoe. Instead, he encouraged fans to “play as they please,” hinting at some choices in the game that may leave players curious about the characters’ paths. However, he assured that players won’t feel like they’re missing out on anything significant.

Dumont explained that at the heart of the game, you choose your character, and the game adjusts accordingly. Yet, there are constraints to this method. Each character has their unique journeys or quests, which only they can embark upon. For instance, if Yasuke needs to settle some personal matters, players can’t switch to Naoe for that task, and vice versa.

It’s fascinating to note that Dumont hinted at some additional stories hidden within the meditation segments of the game, which will offer players a chance to delve into the pasts of both Naoe and Yasuke. These interludes provide insight into their backgrounds and reasons for action, helping build the richness of the game’s world.

Despite being the first Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, the Japanese release of Shadows has been edited by Ubisoft to exclude dismemberment scenes. In other regions, players have the choice to disable this feature. Ubisoft has also revealed Shadows’ extensive accessibility features and hinted at an expansion, initially offered as a pre-order incentive rather than regular DLC. However, the expansion will later be available for purchase separately too.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
