NBC Sports will air the upcoming Winter Olympics, which will take place in Milan, Italy, but the event is set to incorporate elements similar to those used in the recent games held in Paris, France.
Comcast’s affiliated outlet intends to air all competitions on their streaming platform, Peacock, while simultaneously airing at least five hours of daily coverage on the NBC television network. In prime-time, NBC will create a special evening show that focuses on highlights, commentary, and behind-the-scenes looks at the athletes’ performances.
The company anticipates that their latest broadcast of the Paris Olympics, which aimed to provide immediate viewing access while innovatively using prime time with connections to celebrities and popular culture, could act as a blueprint for upcoming editions of this global event.
Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports, stated that Paris showcased the Olympics as an exceptional media event, captivating the nation for 17 days and nights, and drawing large audiences across various age groups. He believes Milan-Cortina will continue this tradition. The time difference between us allows us to replicate our Paris broadcasting strategy on NBC and Peacock, which was well-received and extensively viewed. Team USA is preparing for one of its strongest Winter Olympic performances in recent years, and America has always been intrigued by Italy, its culture, cuisine, and landscapes. Milan-Cortina holds all the components to create another unforgettable Olympics next year.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’m thrilled about Peacock’s upcoming offering! This streaming platform is all set to deliver an incredible array of sports events – a whopping 116 medal events to be precise – live and direct. To make the experience even more engaging, they’ve got a host of interactive features that will let you dive deeper into the action.
Not only can you catch every event as it happens, but you’ll also have the option to replay full events at your convenience, or enjoy curated video clips that highlight the best moments. One feature I’m particularly excited about is “Gold Zone,” a unique show that takes you straight to the most exciting live moments as they unfold, just like it did during the Paris Games. It’s going to be an unforgettable ride!
I’m thrilled to share that starting now, USA Network will be our go-to place for all Team USA events. On weekends and after their regular business day programming ends, CNBC will step up to bring you coverage as well. Despite the plan to separate NBC Sports into a standalone entity by the end of 2025, I’m convinced that we can depend on these networks to deliver top-notch sports content throughout this transition.
NBCUniversal announced in July their anticipation of generating over $1.25 billion in ad revenue related to the Paris Olympics.
