Busan Winner, Bangladesh Oscar Entry ‘The Wrestler’ Heads to EFM With Indywood (EXCLUSIVE)

Indywood Distribution Network has secured the worldwide distribution rights for the movie titled “The Wrestler” (originally known as “Boli”), which is Bangladesh‘s entry in the international feature film category of the 97th Academy Awards and was the top prize winner at the Busan International Film Festival.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that my production company, Indywood, is all set to debut sales at the European Film Market (EFM), which coincides with the Berlin Film Festival. Being an active participant in key film events such as Cannes, Mipcom, and Hong Kong’s FilMart, we’re looking forward to utilizing our extensive global connections to secure a worldwide release for this critically-acclaimed feature film.

In his first film, Iqbal H. Chowdhury spotlights Moju (Nasir Uddin Khan), an elderly wrestler/wrestling coach who happens to be a fisherman struggling with meager catches. This struggle pushes him to confront the local wrestling champion Dofor (AKM Itmam). Moju’s son, Shafu (Angel Noor), has recently wed Rashu (Priyam Archi), and he vents his frustrations on them too. Despite their worries about his mental health and physical condition due to this newfound passion for wrestling, they continue to support him.

In his review for EbMaster, Siddhant Adlakha stated that by keeping a significant part of the story open to interpretation and veering towards the fantastical at its climax, Chowdhury skillfully creates a meticulously built-up suspenseful drama centered around an enigmatic obsession that ultimately feels deeply tragic.

Shyam Kurup from Indywood stated, ‘Given our experience working with major distributors and platforms worldwide, we are optimistic that we can significantly boost the film’s international recognition and market potential.’

Iqbal H. Chowdhury, both writer and director, couldn’t contain his excitement about the film’s potential success: “This is truly astounding! Attending the European Film Market gives us a fantastic platform to share ‘The Wrestler’ with the ideal audience globally. We are deeply appreciative of Indywood for taking on this task.
