Sony found no reason to continue the story of The Order: 1886.
According to Andrea Pessino, founder of Ready At Dawn studio, who spoke with MinnMax channel, the team is eager to launch the follow-up of their action game. They are so confident in the possibilities of this universe that Pessino believes it would result in an “amazing sequel” (as reported by GameSpot).
Yet, Sony appeared less enthused than the studio since they held the rights to the The Order brand. Regardless, Pessino remains unfazed by this situation.
The creator highlighted issues with the challenging production process of the game, “The Order: 1886”. Due to a tight publishing deadline, content had to be taken out of the game. This resulted in numerous non-interactive cutscenes being included instead of playable parts, as there simply wasn’t enough time for development. As stated by Pessino, the game required at least an additional year, but unfortunately, Sony did not provide them with that extra time.
As a consequence, The Order: 1886 received low ratings (Metacritic score of 63/100), which were lower than the studio’s initial expectations (anticipating a score of 70/100). This significantly reduced the likelihood of a sequel. Even if Sony decided to move forward, Pessino and his team would be provided with a tight budget, without room for negotiations to improve terms or fully realize their vision.
