Occasionally, Bungie, the creators of Destiny 2, catch players off guard by sneakily introducing a mission or embedding secrets in the game without any fanfare. This time, they’ve dropped the Barrow Dyad Exotic mission into the game during the weekly reset, and there was absolutely no heads up given!
Fortunately, we’ve managed to pinpoint where the latest Derealize Exotic mission is hidden, learned how to initiate it, and created a comprehensive walkthrough for acquiring the unusual-looking Submachine Gun. Enjoy the quest!

Nether Blights
If you’ve been playing Destiny 2: Episode Heresy, you may have noticed the Nether activity. Previously, we assumed that you had to reload it until you appeared at Trenchway or Hall of Souls, but it appears that the Exotic quest can be initiated from any landing zone within the Nether. You might need to do a bit more searching before you can set off the quest’s steps.
To locate a big Taken Blight area, search for it diligently. After navigating some concealed platforms, leap upward into the area. Once you teleport, seek a floor plaque. If you’re having difficulty finding the path, simply summon your Ghost, and the platforms will momentarily become visible.
Symbols and Fragments
Afterward, a symbol together with a message will appear on the lower left side of your HUD. For us, it read “Something is murmuring to the right…” Take a step forward in the direction indicated by this message and you’ll be transported out. You’ll encounter a Taken Osseous Fragment in a stone bowl; pick it up if you’d like.
Scotopic Rune
Following this, head to Eris’s Apartment within the Forsaken City, where you’ll find the Slab. There, buy and activate the Scotopic Rune enhancement, a tier three runic upgrade. Once activated, you’ll receive The Taken Path quest, with your next objective being to locate something that the Hive have concealed in Sorrow’s Harbor.
Lost Sector Blights
Go to the K1 Revelation Lost Sector located at Sorrow’s Harbor. There, you’ll find a Blight that leads to a plate, reminiscent of one from the Nether. Be mindful of the symbol and follow its path, defeating the Taken enemies as they appear before collecting the fragment. Perform this task again in the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector, specifically at Veles Labyrinth. The Blight can be found within the maze area.
Curse Quests
Following the conquest of the two hidden sectors, make your way back to the Slab in the Last City. This action initiates a sequence of three quests known as “curses” – the Endurance Curse, the Urgency Curse, and the Revenge Curse. Each curse must be lifted. You can find the locations for these curses at the Altars of Sorrow, the Hallowed Grove, and the Nightmare Hunt: Pride respectively. In each location, you will come across a Taken Artifact. As you defeat enemies, the timer displayed on the artifact will increase. Once an area becomes accessible, immerse the Taken Artifact into it.
Once you’ve finished this task, you’ll have to return to the Nether activity once more. In each region, you’ll find a Hive statue much like the one from the King’s Fall raid, which you should interact with. This action will summon a mini-boss. Defeat it and a Taken Osseous Fragment will be yours. It’s only after completing all these steps that the Exotic quest, titled Derealize, will commence.
Derealize Quest
The task at hand is quite clear: You’ll encounter Tormentors and other enemies from the Dread faction as you chase after a commander. Once you arrive at a vast arena, you’ll need to replicate some of the actions taken earlier to unlock the mission and handle more curses using a Taken Relic. Upon enhancing the curse with the Relic, the mini-boss can be attacked. Repeat this process to defeat the boss and proceed to the next stage where you’ll find Blights marked with symbols.
You’ll fight enemies while chasing a commander, then repeat some steps to handle curses using a special item (Taken Relic). After boosting the curse, attack the mini-boss several times to defeat it. Then, you’ll move on to find and deal with symbols marked on Blights.
Complete the brief leaping challenge to obtain the Corrupted Fragment. Afterward, embark on a prolonged jumping sequence that ultimately leads you to the final adversary. Be mindful as Derealize is rich in lore details; however, we’ll avoid any spoilers here. As a reward, the Barrow Dyad Exotic will be yours upon finishing Derealize.
Once you’ve finished one quest, another one starts that lets you acquire internal enhancements for Barrow Dyad. However, to access this, your rank at the Slab must be at least nine. Additionally, you’ll need to find and obtain more Fragments. Luckily, these can be discovered in the Nether activity with relative ease.
Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG
The Barrow Dyad Exotic Submachine Gun has an unusual design, resembling a disc. This peculiar weapon comes with the Panic Response Exotic trait that causes it to emit Blight as it inflicts damage. When not in use, the Blight dissipates, and the gun’s ammunition gradually gets replenished. During reloading, the stored Blight is transformed into Blighted Seekers which home in on enemies and inflict massive damage.
