Jesse Eisenberg Has ‘Bad Memories’ of Hosting ‘SNL’ Because ‘I Assumed I Could Write All the Sketches’: ‘Unbelievably Offensive of Me’

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my personal experience from hosting “Saturday Night Live” back in January 2011. I recall those days not with fondness, but rather as a series of “bad memories.” You see, I made an unfortunate assumption – one that I now realize was a grave mistake. I thought being the host meant I would be contributing ideas and scripts for every sketch during my episode. Alas, that wasn’t the case, and I learned a valuable lesson about the distinct roles in live television that day.

Eisenberg admitted that he regrets a past mistake, saying ‘I only have unpleasant memories because of something really stupid I did.’ Back then, at 17, my ambition was to write for ‘SNL.’ I even prepared a portfolio and found an agent. However, when I was asked to host ten years later, I thought I could create all the sketches on my own. Little did I know that they already had writers.

He went on to say, ‘I hadn’t realized it – I must have been mistaken – and I was also eager to write.’ Writing has been a dream of mine for my entire life, so during the past week, I tried handing out scripts to various actors. I didn’t understand that wasn’t the proper approach.

In the interview, Eisenberg admitted that none of his sketches were included in the “SNL” episode he hosted due to their questionable content and offensive nature. He mentioned that he had been informed by someone that he was allowed to write sketches when hosting the show.
