Located in Madrid, independent production and distribution company Onza, one of Spain’s leading indie studios, has initiated the filming process for the second season of the popular traffic jam comedy series “Gridlock” (or “Traffic Jam,” translated as “Atasco”). This new season is scheduled to make its debut on Prime Video Spain.
It has also shared on-set photos in exclusivity with EbMaster.
As a cinema enthusiast, I eagerly dived into the highly-acclaimed show that premiered on Prime Video Spain last May 24th. To my delight, it swiftly claimed the top spot on the platform the very next day, captivating viewers with its unforeseen, humorous, and engaging narratives unfolding within a massive traffic jam on Madrid’s outskirts.
In its first season, the series is penned and directed by Rodrigo Sopeña, who has previously worked on “La hora de José Mota,” “Club Houdini,” and “Fermat’s Room.” The new batch of six episodes carries forward the producers’ strategy of relying on a well-known Spanish acting ensemble. This time around, the stars include Silvia Abril (“Mamen Mayo” and “Father There is Only One 4”), Carlos Sobera (“Little Coincidences”), Adriana Torrebejano (“Muertos, S.L.”), Carlos Areces (“The Last Circus”), Luis Zahera (“As Bestas,” “El Reino”), and singer-actress Edurne.
Some actors from Season 1 will reprise their roles in Season 2, the producers said.
In Season 1, we had a remarkable ensemble of well-known local talents. These included Antonio Resines, known for his roles in “Mikaela” and “Los Serrano,” Ana Wagener from “El Reino” and “Biutiful,” Iván Masagué who starred in “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Platform,” José Mota recognized for hosting “La Hora de José Mota,” María León, famed for “The Sleeping Voice,” and Edu Soto, best known for “Mortadelo and Filemon: Mission – Save the Planet.
I find myself drawn to a show that’s rooted in universal, everyday experiences yet delves deep into a rich cosmos of personal struggles and intricate relationships.
‘Traffic Jam’ stands out as one of the most groundbreaking concepts in modern Spanish fiction, according to Gonzalo Sagardía, CEO of Onza and an executive producer on the series. Its unique content design and production model make possible an ensemble cast that would be impossible in other productions. The originality of its scripts promises viewers a thrilling journey.
In continuation with the series’ consistent narrative, Season 2 finds us once again in a traffic jam of epic proportions – but this jam is triggered by a truck accident on the freeway, spilling its contents onto the road.
The event significantly impacts the daily routines of countless people: a novice journalist, a lawbreaker with compassion for a stray dog, an unusual taxi journey, prisoners breaking free from jail, a famous figure eluding photographers….
The project titled “Traffic Jam” was jointly developed by Onza, Amazon’s Prime Video, and Publicis Rebellion. José María Irisarri, Sagardía, Santiago de la Rica, and Rodrigo Sopeña are the executive producers of this production.
The new season is set to premiere this year exclusively on Prime Video Spain.
