Rachel Brosnahan had a feeling that David Corenswet was an ideal Superman long before he landed the role of Man of Steel. In an interview with EbMaster on the Critics Choice Awards red carpet, Brosnahan, who portrays Lois Lane – the fearless reporter and love interest in James Gunn’s “Superman” film, discussed her experience working on the movie and the moment she saw Corenswet put on the legendary super-suit for the first time.
Brosnahan stated that it felt like something happened twice when she saw Corenswet dressed as Superman. ‘When we were auditioning for the roles together, I was working on a play and had to leave promptly,’ she explained. ‘As I was leaving, I knocked on the door, and there he was, in full Superman attire, testing for his part. It took me aback, and I exclaimed, “Superman is here!” It was an electrifying moment, one that felt quite unusual. In that instant, I knew it would be David.’
For Brosnahan, embodying Lois Lane is a task of honoring past great performances: “I was an avid ‘Smallville’ viewer. I’d seen ‘Superman and Lois.’ I was raised on the Donner ‘Superman’ films starring Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. We didn’t want to watch too closely as we started, because we wanted to create something unique, but we are mindful that we are standing tall upon the shoulders of these giants.”
(This version maintains the original’s tone while making it slightly more conversational and easier to read.)
However, as stated by Brosnahan, any apprehensions regarding assuming such a renowned role were alleviated by Gunn’s excitement for the project. She described her experience as follows: “This specific venture was simply a joy to be part of.
Starting from the test process onward, it seemed like the project was being crafted with an exceptional passion, and that’s James,” Brosnahan continued. “That’s Peter Safran, this fresh take on DC. James is a fanatic about Superman. It’s a dream come true to be involved in someone else’s dream.
