Civilization VII VR Lets You Build Your Cities On A Virtual Reality Tabletop

2K Games and Firaxis Studios are preparing to revolutionize the Civilization series by introducing a brand-new dimension. During the recent Civ World Summit live broadcast on the official Firaxis Twitch channel, they revealed their plans to introduce Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, the latest entry in the strategy game franchise, into virtual and mixed reality for the first time. This innovation will be available as Civilization VII VR exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S devices.

In Civilization VII VR, you’ll find an innovative perspective as you’re placed above the game board, enclosed within a large circular display known as the Command Table. This virtual reality experience offers both single-player and multiplayer options online. However, it’s important to note that other players must also be using a Meta Quest 3 or 3S device to participate in the online mode.

In addition to Civilization VII, the VR version will offer full compatibility with both virtual reality and mixed reality settings. This means players can issue commands to their digital populace from a bird’s-eye view or get up close and personal by leaning in, witnessing each task being carried out by the miniature citizens on the game board as per instructions.

In the complete VR experience, the player will be moved into a vast museum, where the surrounding environment outside the museum changes according to the chosen leader they’ve selected. On the other hand, mixed reality will superimpose the Command Table surface onto a flat real-world surface, transforming an ordinary table like a kitchen table into an immersive battlefield.

In Spring 2025, Civilization VII VR will debut on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S systems. You can add it to your wishlist right now on both platforms through the Meta Store.
