A creative modifier for Silksong constructed a multiplayer tool exclusively on Steam, allowing your friends to share a laugh over your unsuccessful diagonal pogo jumps.
On September 4, 2025, the sequel to Hollow Knight titled Silksong was released, marking a continuation of Team Cherry’s unique single-player Metroidvania style gameplay. Similar to its predecessor, Hollow Knight and Silksong were crafted with solo play in mind, and they have succeeded without relying on cooperative multiplayer features.
Although Team Cherry didn’t officially announce or suggest multiplayer support for their games, that didn’t deter players from exploring possibilities. In the case of the original Hollow Knight, a fan-created mod called HKMP offered a multiplayer experience, and even in Silksong, players have managed to develop their own version of it.
Silksong’s multiplayer mod created in four hours
On September 9, Modder XvX unveiled an exclusive multiplayer modification for Steam, available only through Nexus. Remarkably, in just a matter of four hours, they managed to create this modification. However, there was a delay, as they openly confessed that their enthusiasm for the game “Delta Force” was responsible for the slight hold-up.
The project offers a user-friendly online experience, includes basic player-versus-player (PvP) interactions, and features multiplayer sessions organized in rooms. This implies that you can collaborate with friends to play together or even challenge each other for friendly competition, albeit the artificial opponents may not be as challenging given your combined efforts.
The setup process is straightforward and simple. Extract the files into the main directory of the game, create a room in the game’s main menu, ask your friends to join, and then load your saved game. If you wish to further customize the PvP settings, there’s a configuration file within BepInEx that allows for such modifications.
In this setup, synchronized players displayed their locations on maps as they opened them, but the creator pointed out some oddities they aimed to improve. The experience was more centered around demonstration and observation rather than extensive cooperative progression. Players would often make light-hearted remarks about the awkwardness. A common joke went like this: “Noo, I don’t want to share a bench with you.
In the initial week of its release, Silksong attracted an unprecedented number of players and showcased a dynamic user-created content scene that was swiftly evolving. The initial four-hour prototype hinted at possible collaborative explorations and organized player vs. player competitions in the future.
In contrast, Team Cherry primarily worked on updates that lessened initial challenges, whereas the community was more engaged in developing modifications such as adding multiplayer functionality, reducing double damage, and enabling Hornet to teleport across the map.
