Users have expressed dissatisfaction with the recent redesign of YouTube’s comment section, stating that it bears an uncanny resemblance to Reddit’s layout.
In February, YouTube updated the layout of its comment section, introducing threaded discussions reminiscent of those found on Reddit.
As per Android Police reports, the updated comment interface was introduced in version 20.05.35 of the app, linking subsequent comments together as a conversation thread starting from the initial response.
Yet, the replies don’t appear as threads anymore, giving it a more aesthetic update but potentially hinting at further modifications. This alteration, however, isn’t met with enthusiasm by users, with some even expressing dissatisfaction on Reddit, stating it’s overly similar to Reddit’s format.
YouTube’s new comments “thread” feature mocked by users
Users across various social platforms voiced their bewilderment and annoyance about the new direction taken by YouTube regarding comment modifications.
What on earth is this! This modification appears awful and seems to be an exact copy of the comments section on Reddit!” exclaimed one individual. “Perhaps you could make the responses appear in a distinct color, such as blue, or completely revise it; people certainly don’t want it like this.
“It honestly looks like Reddit,” another said, oddly enough, on Reddit.

“They turn YouTube comments into Reddit dawg,” voiced another disappointed user.
They turn YouTube comments into Reddit dawg….

I’ve encountered quite a few people who found the recent alteration to be unnecessary, meaningless, and even annoying. They’ve also highlighted that at this point, it doesn’t seem to serve much of a practical purpose.
The design has been consistent for quite some time without any issues, so I don’t understand why they feel the need to change it. Interestingly enough, it resembles Reddit’s layout, but that seems incongruous with the way comments are handled on YouTube.

Addressing the concerns about X, YouTube communicated: “We’ve got your message loud and clear. We’re all ears when it comes to constructive criticism and are constantly seeking methods to enhance our service.” They encouraged users to utilize their feedback system to propose modifications.
In the future, we’ll need to wait and see what the Google-managed platform unveils, however, it’s not the first time it has stirred up some debate in the year 2025.
Following user complaints regarding lengthy, non-skippable ads lasting an hour, the video platform encouraged users to subscribe to YouTube Premium – a service that had experienced a significant price increase in the year 2024.
