Based on Ted Price, the ex-head of Insomniac Games, a proposal for Resistance 4 was presented, but it didn’t end up being produced.
During an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Ted Price mentioned that they had proposed an idea for the series, which was a fantastic concept. However, considering the timing and market potential, it wasn’t successful. When asked if Resistance 3’s underwhelming sales at the time influenced the decision to discontinue the series, Price tactfully avoided a direct response.
He clarified that Resistance 3 was designed to conclude the saga of the Resistance series. By wrapping up Capelli’s story and resolving numerous smaller plot points, they aimed to leave room for flexibility in case they decided to develop additional Resistance games or explore new directions in the future.
In 2011, Resistance 3 made its debut on the PS3. At that time, Insomniac was an autonomous studio, but the Resistance series was under Sony’s publishing wing. A spin-off titled Resistance: Burning Skies for PlayStation Vita came out in 2012, though it wasn’t developed by Insomniac; instead, Nihilistic (now known as nStigate Games) handled the job.
In 2012, Price announced that Insomniac wouldn’t develop any more Resistance games, but later hinted in 2013 that they had seriously thought about a fourth installment. However, instead of another Resistance game, Insomniac opted to create the cooperative third-person shooter game Fuse in 2013 to prevent overexposure to the franchise. After that, Insomniac produced Ratchet & Clank (2016), Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sunset Overdrive, and Song of the Deep. In 2019, they were acquired by Sony.
Recently, Price has stepped down from his role at Insomniac Games, leaving the team now focusing on their upcoming Wolverine project.
