Joan Baez openly admits her appreciation for the film “A Complete Unknown”, attributing it largely to Monica Barbaro‘s Oscar-nominated performance. Baez praised Barbaro’s acting, stating that she enjoyed the movie because Barbaro closely resembled her and accurately portrayed her gestures. “She embodied me so well,” Baez said. “If I didn’t think she was good at it, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it in general.”
Baez visited a local cinema eleven days after the film’s release to watch it and found the use of music “fantastic” and the storyline “amusing”. However, it should be noted that contrary to some rumors, Baez did not engage in any romantic activities with Bob Dylan during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The potential threat of nuclear war simply wasn’t conducive to a romantic mood. “It was pleasantly brief,” she said, adding that her granddaughter had expressed similar sentiments about the scene.
Monica Barbaro has expressed hope to meet Joan Baez in person, as their schedules have kept them from meeting thus far. With the Oscars just around the corner, perhaps a red-carpet date is in order?
