Excitedly, I can’t wait to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Nintendo this year! They’re releasing Wario Land 4 on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, and it’s landing right on February 14th. This quirky platformer from the Game Boy Advance era features everyone’s favorite gassy anti-hero, Wario, who undergoes transformations into Zombie Wario and Bouncy Wario, among others. In this golden pyramid adventure, I’ll join Wario as he digs for treasure!
Wario Land 4 first appeared in 2001 as one of the early games for Game Boy Advance. It’s important to note that it was the fifth main platformer featuring Wario when considering Virtual Boy Wario Land, making it part of the series. Interestingly enough, Wario Land 4 came out before the WarioWare franchise even started.
Back in late 2011, Wario Land 4 was among the 10 Game Boy Advance games offered for free to participants of the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program. Individuals who purchased the system early, within the initial months before a significant price reduction, were rewarded with 20 complimentary downloadable games.
Previously, Nintendo added Ridge Racer 64 to the premium tier of their subscription service, which is known as the Expansion Pack. On the other hand, in the previous month, the standard Switch Online tier received Fatal Fury 2 and a couple of SNES games that were previously undiscovered treasures.
The Nintendo Switch Online subscription is priced at $20 per year for individual users, or $35 for families, granting access to online gameplay and classic libraries from NES, SNES, and Game Boy. For a more comprehensive experience, the Expansion Pack plan costs $50 annually for individuals ($80 for families), featuring additional content like DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and games from Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis.
