Sports Interactive and Sega have declared that they are no longer proceeding with Football Manager 25, as they plan to concentrate on their upcoming project instead.
As a dedicated gamer, I have to share that the creators of Football Manager 25 decided to scrap the project due to some issues with the overall gaming experience and interface. Although certain aspects met our internal objectives, they didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of player satisfaction. After thorough evaluation and playtesting, it became clear that a fresh approach was needed. Regrettably, we weren’t able to reach the desired level of quality just yet. But rest assured, we’ll apply what we learned from this project to make our next game even better!
I’m deeply sorry to break this news, but as a passionate fan myself, I must share that Sports Interactive and SEGA have jointly decided to withdraw the release of Football Manager 25. This tough choice was reached after thorough internal discussions and careful contemplation.

Sports Interactive and Sega announced that every choice to postpone the game’s launch was intended to bring it nearer to our ideal quality. However, as key deadlines were approaching at year-end, it became evidently obvious that we wouldn’t meet the required standard, even with an extended release schedule.
Initially scheduled for an early November 2024 launch, Football Manager 25 experienced two delays, firstly to late November and secondly to March 2025. The developers contemplated a further postponement with subsequent updates through patches, but ultimately chose not to. Moreover, a release beyond March would have come too close to the end of the football season, making it unlikely for fans to purchase another game, likely Football Manager 26, in the same year.
Individuals who have already secured their game pre-orders will be automatically entitled to refunds, which should happen shortly.
In simpler terms, we won’t be providing an update for Football Manager 24 with the latest 2024/2025 season data because doing so would divert our team’s focus towards developing their next project.
This year hasn’t been kind to new game releases, as Football Manager 25 isn’t the sole title that’s been axed. In fact, the team behind Celeste announced the cancellation of their upcoming project, Earthblade, last month. Additionally, Sony has decided to scrap two of its live-service projects as well.
