The creators of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII have unveiled their development plans, primarily focusing on refining aspects of the game that received a mixed response during its pre-release stage.
Anticipation ran high for the unveiling of the seventh iteration of this venerable Civilization series. Given its long-standing history as an evolving franchise and its dominance in the 4X strategy genre for decades, it’s no wonder that fans were eagerly awaiting the developers’ promised groundbreaking updates aimed at pushing the game to even greater heights.
Access too far in advance
In simple terms, even after its paid early release, emotions are still evident, and they’re far from joyful among the fanbase. Despite a slight improvement in ratings on Steam over the past day, it’s important to acknowledge that Civilization currently only has 47% positive reviews, which isn’t impressive. This is particularly concerning given that this “early access” version was sold at full price, not a discounted one – an expense likely taken by the series’ most dedicated fans.
The amusing aspect of this situation is that it turns out the issue wasn’t with the fresh or revised gameplay mechanics. Instead, alterations in the age system, settlements, and so on are being commended, even by negative reviewers, despite being a key worry for Civilization enthusiasts.
Interface issues
As a gamer, I couldn’t help but notice the buzz surrounding the game after its release. It didn’t take long for the developers at Firaxis Games to address the concerns that early access players had raised on their official game page and Steam. They’ve made it clear they’re listening, and they’re planning to act. While they’ll be sharing a comprehensive “roadmap” soon, they’ve already given us a sneak peek into the updates intended for Civilization 7 to rectify any issues that have arisen.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but notice that it’s not just the innovative mechanics that are garnering attention, but also the user interface (UI) that seems to be lacking some familiar features from Civilization 6. It appears that the developers have taken this feedback seriously, as they’ve acknowledged the need for improvement and even announced their plans to enhance map readability, make general improvements, and make the UI more intuitive to use. They are actively listening to player feedback and working diligently to create a better gaming experience for us all.
Moreover, Firaxis Games studio promised to add missing features that fans are demanding, including:
- possibility of creating teams in multiplayer mode (cooperative play);
- more types of maps;
- customization options (including changing the names of religions and cities).
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that it’s officially confirmed we’re getting an update in March, version 1.1.0! This exciting release is set to enhance our gaming experience with Quality of Life (QoL) upgrades, as well as striking the right balance in aspects like diplomacy and crises. Can’t wait!
Users seem to be expressing gratitude towards the developers’ communication. On various online platforms, comments are being posted, and some humorously acknowledge that the creators are alluding to the pre-release of what they jokingly call “Civilization 7” as a kind of early access. It’s worth noting that the term “advanced access” or “pre-access,” which Steam introduced, isn’t commonly used yet in this context.
Hey there fellow gamers! I’ve got to admit, when I heard about Civ 7 being in Early Access, it gave me a bit of a pause. It seems like another game that might take some time before it’s fully polished and ready for prime time. But hey, let’s embrace the journey and see how this one unfolds!
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 will be released for all players on February 11.
