Adam Scott to Lead Supernatural Horror ‘Hokum’ From ‘Oddity’ Director Damian McCarthy (EXCLUSIVE)

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that I, Adam Scott, am making a comeback to the chilling realm of horror movies! With my past credits like “Little Evil,” “Krampus,” and “Piranha 3D” under my belt, not forgetting my debut in “Hellraiser: Bloodline” way back in 1996, I can’t wait to send a shiver down your spine once more!

The actor famous for “Severance” will headline the cast of the supernatural horror movie titled “Hokum,” which is scheduled to be filmed on-site in Ireland later this month. This information is exclusive, as EbMaster has learned. The film originates from Irish screenwriter and director Damian McCarthy, who is recognized for his previous work, the successful “Oddity,” that generated buzz following its debut at SXSW, where it received the audience award in the midnighter category.

In the upcoming production, ‘Hokum’ stars Scott as a horror writer who decides to scatter his parents’ remains at a secluded Irish inn, oblivious to its haunted reputation due to a local legend of a witch residing there. Co-starring with Scott are Peter Coonan from ‘Bad Sisters’ and David Wilmot known for his role in ‘Bodkin’.”

“Scott will portray a horror novelist in the upcoming project, ‘Hokum’. He plans to disperse his parents’ ashes at an isolated Irish inn, unbeknownst to him that it is said to be haunted by a witch. Joining Scott are Peter Coonan from ‘Bad Sisters’ and David Wilmot, who previously appeared in ‘Bodkin’, rounding out the cast.

The film titled ‘Hokum’ is the latest joint venture between Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, following their successful projects like ‘Late Night With the Devil’ from last year, starring David Dastmalchian, and the praised thriller ‘Watcher,’ directed by Chloe Okuno with Maika Monroe in the lead. This production is the fifth collaboration within their current slate, with Bryan Edward Hill’s ‘Archangel,’ featuring Connor Leslie, and Randall Okita’s ‘Menace’ starring Isabel May, both of which were purchased by IFC/Shudder at Cannes last year.

The movie will be manufactured by Spooky Pictures co-founders Roy Lee (of “Barbarian” fame) and Steven Schneider (known for “Strange Darling”), along with Derek Dauchy of Image Nation (responsible for “Late Night with the Devil”), and Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra of Tailored Films (“The Apprentice” producers). Ben Ross, Dan Kagan, Rami Yasin, and Andrew Childs will act as executive producers. Additionally, the project has received co-production funding from Screen Ireland/ Fís Éireann.

As a cinephile at the helm of Image Nation, I’ve been fortunate to team up with Steven and Roy on an extraordinary voyage. It’s been truly rewarding to witness the fruit of our labor manifest into remarkable cinematic projects. Now, with Adam’s captivating talent and Damian’s distinctive vision, we have another chance to break new ground in the horror genre and cement our position in the global film market.

Schneider from Spooky Pictures commented: “Damian McCarthy’s innovative style and Adam Scott’s exceptional acting skills are making ‘Hokum’ something extraordinary. It’s a joy collaborating with Image Nation Abu Dhabi, who, like us, are committed to telling daring, groundbreaking stories. We can hardly wait for everyone to witness the product of our collective efforts.

UTA Independent Film Group is handling U.S./North American rights to the film.
