Did Steve Coogan just reveal that a fifth season of “The Trip” is on the way?
Based on a letter written by the comedian and obtained by The Evening Standard, it appears that they have confirmed the information in question.
To keep from receiving a driving ban due to speeding on the M6 at almost 100 mph last year, it’s said that Coogan wrote an appeal to the court. In this appeal, he expressed his necessity to drive for a fresh episode of “The Trip,” a well-loved series where Coogan and Rob Brydon portray fictionalized versions of themselves.
He stated in a report by The Standard that he has several crucial movie roles lined up for 2025, many of which center around driving. He’s set to star in the popular TV show ‘The Trip’ alongside Rob Brydon, and as you might guess from the title, this series involves quite a bit of driving. Filming for this show is slated to begin at the end of June 2025, and if he couldn’t drive, it would likely halt the production process.
According to The Standard, Coogan requested the court to assign him only five penalty points on his driver’s license instead of six, thus avoiding a six-month driving suspension. He emphasized that this leniency wasn’t just about him; it also concerns “numerous individuals who rely on these productions for their livelihood.
He mentioned that these individuals, like camera operators, sound specialists, lighting crews, riggers, among others earning less, could be affected by project cancellations due to financial difficulties, since rearranging such tasks can be extremely complex.
In the end, Coogan’s request for permission was approved, allowing the filming to move forward. As a result, he received five penalty points and had to pay a fine of £2,500 (approximately $3,098) along with additional costs.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve had the pleasure of following Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon through their hilarious journeys in “The Trip,” a series directed by Michael Winterbottom that spans four captivating seasons. The first season, which debuted in 2010, took us on a comical tour around northern England. Subsequent seasons led us to Italy, Spain, and Greece, each leg of their adventure being transformed into standalone films as well. The latest season premiered on Sky in 2020, but despite initial reports that “The Trip to Greece” would be the final chapter, there’s talk among Coogan and Brydon about potentially reviving this charming duo. They’ve even tossed around ideas for new locations, such as Wales, Ireland, and the United States. Stay tuned for more updates on their potential future escapades!
The representatives for Coogan, Brydon, Winterbottom, and Sky didn’t give an immediate response to the comment request from EbMaster.
