When opting for an early access game purchase, gamers anticipate that the developers will continually refine and enhance the game they’ve bought. Ultimately, we all desire assurance that our investment is worthwhile. Fortunately, a new feature on Steam now ensures complete transparency regarding development progress.
Based on a recent post from the SteamDB profile, it seems I’ll be seeing a heads-up for games on Steam Early Access that haven’t had an update in a while. This useful tidbit will be clearly displayed within the “Early Access Game” section, making it easier for me to stay informed about my favorite projects.
The system could benefit from some fine-tuning, as it might lead users astray. For instance, a game like Heartbound, which, based on the game information, has not received an update for more than a year (as reported by TechRaptor).
Indeed, a user pointed out that a new version of Heartbound came out at the start of this month. Yet, it’s worth mentioning that, according to another player, a patch for the game was introduced as far back as April 2024 – that’s approximately 13 months prior.
A captivating instance is the video game titled “Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist,” launched by its developers in March 2024. The initial demo version was made available for early access, offering around 2-4 hours of immersive gameplay. Following this introduction, a few small bug fixes were implemented, but no additional updates were released until the unveiling of version 1.0 in January 2025.
Regardless, it’s quite intriguing indeed. If properly implemented, this mechanism might deter numerous individuals from buying video games that their developers have stopped supporting.
