After first deciding not to publish its games on Valve’s platform, Steam, Ubisoft has changed its strategy for its current collection of titles. This shift led to several games from the Assassin’s Creed series and the upcoming Far Cry installment being released elsewhere instead of on Steam. This decision might have impacted their performance and success in the market.
This shift occurred last year when Ubisoft reversed their previous position by choosing to release forthcoming titles on Steam. For instance, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla debuted on the platform in 2022, followed by Star Wars Outlaws a few months later, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows as the next game. Similarly, Ubisoft has reintroduced certain gameplay elements, such as Steam Achievements for several games; moreover, another Ubisoft-published game is scheduled to regain this feature soon.
Over the past few weeks, Ubisoft has reinstated Steam Achievements in several of their games such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, Black Flag, Revelations, Syndicate, Valhalla, Mirage, Rogue, and Far Cry 3, 4, 5, and 6. After its launch on Steam, Star Wars Outlaws was equipped with active Steam Achievements. More recently, the Watch Dogs series has received a significant update that includes support for this feature.
This week, Ubisoft stealthily incorporated Steam Achievements into the original Watch Dogs. Now, players can delve back into the tech-filled exploits of Chicago and start unlocking these new Steam achievements. For those who have previously finished the PC version, Ubisoft assures that any already achieved accomplishments will automatically receive their corresponding achievements.
To synchronize the achievements, you only need to run the game once, and any Ubisoft Connect achievements that were previously unlocked will automatically appear on Steam. It’s expected that Steam Achievements will be incorporated into Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion soon, though the exact timing is yet to be determined.
