Mason Gooding Says Ghostface Is ‘The Most Brutal He’s Been’ in ‘Scream 7’: There Was a Prosthetic ‘That Actually Turned My Stomach Over’

In the upcoming “Scream 7”, actor Mason Gooding reveals that Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original 1996 film, will be directing. Gooding claims that the franchise’s antagonist Ghostface is depicted as “the most ruthless” in this new chapter compared to previous installments.

The sequel seems to build upon what’s previously been established, and this is particularly evident with the return of Kevin Williamson, the original writer, to direct. In my opinion, Ghostface appears to be more ruthless than ever before. I won’t reveal any spoilers, but let me tell you that there are some scenes involving the human body that push the boundaries of violence, and it feels like Kevin is venturing into uncharted territory.

According to Gooding, “Scream 7” was “distasteful, yet enjoyable,” emphasizing the great work done by the special effects team.

Gooding stated that a particular prosthetic he encountered in the makeup room made him feel queasy. You’ll understand what he means once you lay your eyes on it, but let me tell you, it’s some remarkable work. The effects team over there is truly exceptional, and they seem to be putting in a lot of effort.

Gooding expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the original “Scream” actress, Neve Campbell, in the forthcoming sequel, as he hadn’t had a suitable chance to do so during the filming of “Scream 5”.

Gooding mentioned that he didn’t have much one-on-one interaction with Neve [in ‘Scream 5’], but working with her in ‘Scream 7′ now makes him feel connected to the series’ past. Just being near her feels like a piece of history, and it leaves him feeling satisfied.

In December, I broke the news that Gooding and Courteney Cox are rejoining the cast for “Scream 7.” Campbell confirmed her participation in “Scream 7” following her absence from the sixth film due to a disagreement over pay. Notably, Williamson is set to direct a “Scream” movie for the first time, taking over from Christopher Landon who stepped down from the project. The original writer of the “Scream” series, Williamson, penned the script for the initial film in 1996 and has now returned as director for this new installment.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Jasmin Savoy Brown will be reprising her role once more. Similar to Gooding, she graced our screens in the fifth and sixth episodes of this beloved series. Can’t wait to see what she brings to the table in this upcoming installment!

Here are the new additions to our cast: Joel McHale, Isabel May, Mark Consuelos, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp join us.

The seventh installment of the “Scream” series, titled “Scream 7”, is scheduled for a theater release on February 27, 2026. This movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced by Spyglass Media.

On January 9th, Williamson shared a backstage photo on Instagram as filming began for the new “Scream” movie. He acknowledged that he’s not supposed to reveal anything about it, but he just couldn’t contain his excitement because he had one of the best days ever! He was thrilled to work with such an outstanding cast and crew who gave their all and supported him every step of the way. Williamson expressed his deep gratitude for this opportunity and fondly remembered Wes Craven, whose influence on his life and career continues to be immense. He’s eagerly looking forward to tomorrow!
