Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Fan Film Gets Shut Down By Nintendo

Recently, director and actor Chris Carpenter initiated a Kickstarter project to materialize his concept for a Legend of Zelda fan movie. While the project was somewhat successful, gathering around $24,000, it also attracted Nintendo‘s notice. As a result, the Kickstarter campaign has been halted, and the production of the Zelda fan film is no longer going forward.

According to Nintendo Life, Dio Traverso (one of the producers) announced on the Kickstarter page that the project has been cancelled. This means no funds will be collected from the campaign. He also expressed gratitude towards the film’s supporters, speaking on behalf of Carpenter and the entire team who worked on the project.

Initially, it was planned for the carpenter to assume the character of Link alongside Avi Lake, who was chosen as Princess Zelda, in the movie titled “Lost in Hyrule”. This film was set after the events of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, with the aim of concluding that part of Link’s adventures.

It’s well-known that Nintendo takes legal action frequently, as demonstrated by their lawsuit against a supermarket in Costa Rica named Super Mario (which they ultimately lost). If the business called Lost in Hyrule had been established, it’s likely that Nintendo would have pursued them too. However, the Kickstarter campaign and subsequent media attention might have expedited Nintendo’s legal response to the project.

Moreover, Sony Pictures is set to produce a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda, with Nintendo as its originator. Since 2023, Wes Ball, who previously worked on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has been linked to this project. However, since then, there haven’t been any substantial developments or announcements regarding it.
