Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s ‘A Simple Favor’ Gets Official Sextuplet

The follow-up to the 2018 comedy-thriller “A Simple Favor,” directed by Paul Feig and featuring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, has officially been titled and is scheduled to open the SXSW film festival.

In the movie “Another Simple Favor,” characters Stephanie Smothers (played by Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (portrayed by Lively) journey to Capri, Italy for Emily’s wedding to a wealthy Italian entrepreneur. The plot unravels with “murder and deceit” taking place. Alongside the principal cast of Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, and Henry Golding from the initial film, this ensemble also features Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, and Allison Janney. For director Paul Feig, the debut of this production marks a return to SXSW, as both his films “Bridesmaids” and “Spy” were first presented at the festival in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

If Lively decides to show up at the festival, it will be her initial public outing since her legal dispute with Justin Baldoni commenced. This disagreement stemmed from allegations she made against him regarding sexual harassment and a defamatory campaign during the making and promotion of the 2024 film “It Ends With Us.”

The screenplay for ‘Another Simple Favor’ was penned by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis, based on characters created by Darcey Bell. It’s produced by Feig through Feigco Entertainment, with Laura Fischer also involved, and Jennifer Booth, Jessica Sharzer, and Marco Valerio Pugini serve as executive producers. Lionsgate is the production studio.

Claudette Godfrey, SXSW’s vice president of film and television, expressed that upon watching this movie last fall, they immediately felt it was perfect for opening SXSW. It evoked the exhilarating sensation we, as programmers, cherish. She mentioned that Paul Feig and SXSW share an exceptional affection for daring, fearless comedy. From the memorable late-night screening of ‘Bridesmaids’ to the rambunctious world premiere of ‘Spy’, his movies encapsulate what makes our festival unique – outrageously entertaining projects that challenge the norms. We’re incredibly eager to collaborate with Paul once more and launch the festival with a film that left our entire team in stitches, applauding, and yearning to watch it again!

Feig expressed his immense excitement about returning to his favorite festival worldwide, where ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘Spy’ previously premiered. He feels deeply honored that our film is opening this year’s event. The characters from these movies were simply too entertaining to leave behind, which is why he decided to make a sequel. Having Anna, Blake, Henry, Andrew, Michele, Elizabeth, Alex, and himself watch the movie with the SXSW crowd is an item on his bucket list that he’ll cross off on March 7th. After this special occasion, playing drums for Dwight Yoakum’s band will become his top priority.
