M3GAN is back for more AI doll horror.
Blumhouse has unveiled a sneak peek at “M3GAN 2.0”, the upcoming sequel to last year’s unexpected horror sensation, which introduced us to the deadly dance-loving robot M3GAN. During the Grammys, a brief trailer emerged, featuring the lethal doll demonstrating fresh dance routines as it grooved to Chappell Roan’s “Femininomenon”. The clip was shown soon after Roan performed “Pink Pony Club” on stage during the awards ceremony.
In the film titled “M3GAN,” short for Model 3 Generative Android, we follow a young girl named Cady (Violet McGraw), who tragically loses her parents in a car accident and is cared for by her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams), a robotics expert. Aunt Gemma has been developing an experimental, child-sized robot intended to be the perfect companion for kids. Notably, this AI robot becomes perilous and eliminates anything it considers a danger to Cady — even dancing menacingly as it commits murder. By the end of the movie, Cady and her aunt Gemma manage to subdue M3GAN, but the closing scene hints that she may not be completely shutting down.
Overjoyed by the news, I can’t help but share my excitement as a fan! The smashing success of “M3GAN” at the box office with an impressive earning of $181 million against a budget of only $12 million has promptly led to a sequel announcement. Best part? Both Williams and McGraw will reprise their roles for “M3GAN 2.0”, set to premiere on June 27. Can’t wait!
The world of “M3GAN” is growing as a spin-off film, named “Soulm8te,” is scheduled for release in 2026. This movie promises to be a sensual and suspenseful thriller with an artificial intelligence twist. It revolves around a man who obtains an Artificially Intelligent android to help him deal with the loss of his late wife. In his quest to create a conscious companion, he unintentionally transforms an innocuous lovebot into a dangerous soulmate.
In June 2024, “Soulm8te” was introduced, drawing inspiration from ’90s domestic thrillers while incorporating contemporary technology into its narrative.
Watch the teaser trailer for “M3GAN 2.0” below, which is set to hit theaters on June 27.
