London Market Opens Studio for TV Productions

I’m thrilled to share that London‘s Mercato Metropolitano, my favorite sustainable food market, is expanding its horizons! They’re transforming a part of their space into a studio for TV and movie productions. Yet, fear not, the market will continue to thrive as a vibrant food court. This transformation comes after they successfully served as the filming location for an upcoming documentary series called “The Unknown Chefs,” produced by the multi-talented Andrea Iervolino from Italy and David Tickle, a renowned British music producer.

The “Unknown Chefs” series, which follows the stories of four refugees from Syria, Namibia, Nepal, and Uzbekistan who found a new life in the UK and transformed their native cuisines into profitable businesses, will be released on March 7 across streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Iervolino’s Tatatu platform.

Iervolino co-created the show in partnership with Tickle, under the banner of Tickle Entertainment, which is renowned for its collaborations with acts such as Blondie, Peter Gabriel, U2, Prince, and Joe Cocker.

The main characters successfully started their street food ventures, thanks to the backing they received from Mercato Metropolitano.

Iervolino, who has worked on films such as “Ferrari” directed by Michael Mann, the Johnny Depp film “Waiting for the Barbarians,” and “Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend,” now holds a majority share in Mercato Metropolitano and has been appointed its president, leading this innovative community market.

Currently, he’s turning the eco-friendly food court at Mercato Metropolitan’s Ilford spot into a versatile center, complete with advanced facilities, which will primarily focus on creating high-quality content centered around food, its associated culture, and the entrepreneurial journeys behind it.

Mercato Metropolitano has long symbolized the future of food. Now, we aim to broaden our cultural influence by sharing narratives that both educate and captivate a worldwide audience. This is a logical progression for a venture that has consistently maintained a clear purpose: uniting people, culture, and sustainability,” stated Iervolino.
