Melissa Gilbert Tells Megyn Kelly to Watch Original ‘Little House’ for ‘Woke’ Moments

In response to Megyn Kelly’s comment about Netflix’s upcoming “Little House on the Prairie” remake, Melissa Gilbert, who starred in the original TV series based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, spoke up. It was announced by EbMaster on January 29 that Netflix is producing a new version of the classic book series. The original show ran for nine seasons and 204 episodes from 1974 to 1982 on NBC.

As a devoted film enthusiast, if Netflix decides to modernize ‘Little House on the Prairie’, I vow to do everything in my power to derail your endeavor.” – Megyn Kelly’s statement regarding the Netflix reboot.

Gilbert replied on the threads, suggesting that Kelly could stream any episode from any location worldwide.

In response to the discussion, Gilbert recommended that Kelly watch any episode, available for streaming from anywhere around the globe.

It seems Megyn expressed (on a platform I don’t use) her concern about Netflix not making the ‘Little House’ remake too politically progressive, which Gilbert responded to in a more extensive statement. Essentially, Megyn suggested rewatching the original versions. Gilbert pointed out that television doesn’t get much more progressive than the original series, as it addressed various contemporary issues such as racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse, and many other politically sensitive topics. In essence, he thanked them for their appreciation of the show’s progressive nature.

I’m thrilled to share that I, Rebecca Sonnenshine, have been appointed as the showrunner and executive producer for the Netflix reboot of “Little House on the Prairie.” The new series promises a unique blend of family drama, survival saga, and a glimpse into the origins of the American West. Drawing inspiration from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books, this fresh adaptation offers a vibrant perspective on the challenges and victories experienced by those who forged the frontier.

The “Little House” book collection encompasses eight books that came out between the 1930s and ’40s, with a ninth added posthumously in 1971. This series has already sold over 73 million copies worldwide. Moreover, NBC’s television adaptation featuring Gilbert remains highly popular. In fact, it was recently reported by Nielsen that the series was among the most-streamed library titles of 2024, accumulating a staggering 13.25 billion minutes of viewing time on Peacock.

Sonnenshine declared, ‘I fell head over heels for these books when I was just five years old.’ They sparked my passion for writing and filmmaking, and it’s an honor and a delight to reimagine these tales for a fresh, worldwide audience on Netflix.
