As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to announce that my latest creation, “Queerpanorama,” has been picked up by Best Friend Forever, a Brussels-based sales company known for their universal communication (“Universal Language”). This exciting move comes before the world premiere of my film at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival.
The movie is scheduled to debut in the Panorama section, serving as Li’s next project following “Drifting,” which premiered in competition at Rotterdam in 2021 and received the award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Golden Horse Awards. Additionally, it was nominated for Best Picture at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
Located in Hong Kong, “Queerpanorama” follows a gay character who assumes identities of men he’s had sexual encounters with and takes these personas on for his next dates. By adopting different personas, he can express his true self more authentically, as suggested by the plot summary.
Our beloved series “Queerpanorama” is set to debut for international sales during the market segment of the Berlin Film Festival, known as EFM – a significant step towards global distribution.
Li mentioned that he penned the film during a particularly challenging period in his life, amidst significant global upheaval.
The director went on to remember each small act of kindness and comfort given by these unfamiliar people, and portrayed the strength of sexual and queer camaraderie that emerged during our brief interactions,” he explained.
Martin Gondre and Charles Bin, the founders of Best Friend Forever, characterized the film as a “modern tale of cruising,” combining tender representations of its characters. They noted that “Queerpanorama” is unique due to its sleek black-and-white cinematography and steamy hook-up scenes, providing an alluring and sophisticated drama with a nouvelle vague ambiance, similar to the works of Wong Kar Wai or Eric Rohmer.
Queerpanorama” was created by Jun Li and Zenni Corbin (of “Drifting”) at Good Sin Production, as well as Huang Yue (“The Shadowless Tower”) at La Fonte. The cast features new actors such as Jayden Cheung, Erfan Shekarriz, Sebastian Mahito Soukup, Arm Anatphikorn, Phillip Smith, Wang Ko Yuan, and Zenni Corbin.”
Or in a more conversational style:
“Queerpanorama was produced by a couple of folks – Jun Li and Zenni Corbin from Good Sin Production, plus Huang Yue from La Fonte. They gathered together new actors like Jayden Cheung, Erfan Shekarriz, Sebastian Mahito Soukup, Arm Anatphikorn, Phillip Smith, Wang Ko Yuan, and Zenni Corbin for the film.
Additionally joining the Berlinale is a close friend, as the sole documentary “Timestamp” by Ukrainian filmmaker Kateryna Gornostai makes its competition premiere. Notably, the sales company has recently managed other notable works such as the acclaimed Sundance film “The Things You Kill” by Alireza Khatami; the Belgian comedy “Heads or Fails” at Fantastic Fest, directed by Lenny and Harpo Guit; the winner of the Directors’ Fortnight Audience Award and an Oscar nominee, “Universal Language,” by Matthew Rankin; and the documentary “Peaches goes Bananas” at Venice, directed by Marie Losier.
