Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Will Move to Dismiss Justin Baldoni’s Lawsuit

I, Blake Lively, alongside my husband, Ryan Reynolds, have chosen to request the dismissal of Justin Baldoni’s defamation lawsuit in a federal court on Thursday.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the court proceedings on Monday involving the high-profile feud between the lead actors of “It Ends With Us.” This will mark their first official appearance in court as they sort out their differences in a legal setting.

In the allegations made by Lively, she claims that Baldoni, who was not only the director but also a colleague, behaved inappropriately towards her sexually while working on the film set. Subsequently, when she bravely addressed these incidents, she suggests that Baldoni retaliated with a damaging reputation campaign against her.

Baldoni and his representatives argue that Lively slandered them by using text messages out of their original meaning and twisting the nature of their communications. Furthermore, Baldoni claims that Lively and Reynolds attempted to influence WME into terminating him as a client, a claim that WME has denied.

On Thursday, the lawyers representing the couple submitted a document as instructed by Judge Lewis Liman, who had outlined the steps for the federal case’s progression. The judge requested a brief letter stating, in one clear sentence, the defendant’s intention to propose a motion to dismiss the case.

Liman will set a deadline later to actually file the motion.

Michael J. Gottlieb stated that the parties represented by Lively-Reynolds plan to request the court to discard the lawsuit filed by the plaintiffs,” he said, abiding by the judge’s direction to be concise.

On Wednesday, publicist Leslie Sloane, similarly implicated in Baldoni’s lawsuit, submitted a corresponding filing.

The judge has indicated that he intends to arrange a trial for March 2026 and requested each side to submit a timeline that makes it possible to hold the trial by then.

In an unusual instance of unity, lawyers from both parties have signaled their approval for merging the two federal lawsuits into a single court case.

During the court hearing on Monday, there’s anticipation for a debate between the two parties regarding the out-of-court actions of Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s lawyer. Lively’s legal team claims that Freedman is making biased statements in the media, which they believe negatively influences the potential jury members. In response, Freedman asserts that he has the freedom to publicly defend his client against Lively’s media campaign.
